Dan Girardi

I can understand MDZ playing like **** (I have no problem trading him) but G was responsible for his own brain farts.

I actually don't think Del Zotto was that bad. I mean, you can see on the Marchand goal that DZ played Bergeron really well. G just **** the bed.

That pairing is just a disaster together. They have the same bad traits.

I'll be honest.

The game Girardi had was inexcusable...and I'm still pissed about it.

But....he was tremendous in the Caps series, IMO. I think he'll bounce back.

This... give hima break. he really only has 1 or 2 bad games every 10-12 games... For a defenseman, that is very solid imo...

I think what has ruined him is pairing him with MDZ... Torts should NOT have broken him up for McD.. Mac and G play a solid D game. BReaking them up ruins the chemistry if you ask me. you want shut down defense? Those two need to be on the ice at the same time

The defense pairings should be complementing each other. G gets too much ice time to go balls to the wall all the time.. McD can make up for that with his speed and quick legs.. People take it for granted, but the guy does 25-30 minutes almost every other game he plays. Take it easy on him...

Stralman and MDZ work good because stralman plays a superior point game while MDZ can ignite the rush
McD and G play a solid D game because both of them are quick, big bodied, and able to block shots
Eminger and Moore eat minutes up just fine. Moore has a great shot.

del zotto is awful. to me it looked like G doesn't trust him at all and he was looking at the puck because of it

Girardi was great in the Caps series.

But he was subpar in the regular season, godawful tonight, and not much better yesterday.

Guy really fell off after a fantastic last season, as much as I love him.

I may be reading to much into this but it seems like you are making excuses for Girardi.

Dan was BRUTAL tonight and not much better in game 1.

In fact he's had a pretty bad post season on the whole.

he was fine in Washington series with Mcdonagh. Girardi was bad but doesn't help playing with del horror

Not saying that anyone on this thread is saying this, but the fact that this thread is only 2 pages long let's me know everything I need to know about everyone on today's GDT who were saying "OMG! Girardi sux!!!! Trade him now!!!!"

Are you saying that girardi plays better with 1st pairing defenseman to a 2nd/3rd pairing defenseman? Because that's every single skater in the NHL.

If he is our #1 righty he needs to play like it. He shouldn't need Mac to bail him out everytime he ****s up. He should have DZ's back (who was also god awful).

He looked like a Bickel who got 20+ minutes. At least Bickel can play offense:sarcasm:

We were lucky enough not to have gotten burned in the Caps series and while I readily admit he was not today bad against the Capitals, he was less than fine.

Not terribad, but on the whole, Girardi has not been as good as Girardi CAN be and has been and needs to be.

And up until today, Callahan has been pretty dismal as well.

He has sucked for a year now. The sad thing is his stock was still ridiculously high last off-season and we could have had a great return.

I completely agree. He's been awful this season or he's been hurt. He was a ROCK last year, as was Del Zotto.

I think the lockout is partially to blame for it, but hes been ****** all year. I honestly hope he's been hurt and hiding it.

Very glad someone else thinks the same way and has seen his play for what it has been for a while - consistently and generally awful (unless paired with McD/Staal of course, then they cover his ass constantly and Girardi somehow got a pass for ****ing up in the first place), and littered with terrible puck movement decisions.

Girardi has been the direct result - for a while now - of why the Rangers get hemmed in their own zone because if even the slightest amount of pressure is imposed on him, his first instinct is to just throw the puck away. Which is usually an aimless throw-away in the defensive zone which results in a turn over 9 times out of 10 which results in 2 minute shifts for players. And sometimes we wonder why we can't get our offense going? We have trouble getting out of our own zone when there's no one within 30 feet.

Also, PLEASE no more Girardi-MDZ pairing. It's just beyond abysmal.

i love Dan Girardi.

people are crazy willing to trade him off...

i mean, don't get me wrong, if we could pull off a trade for someone on the Oilers....a young stud like Hall for Girardi+, I'd do it...but other than that, no thanks.

Del Zotto-Girardi is a bad pairing. They're both slow and don't trust each other. McDonagh-Girardi had amazing chemistry. I would rather have Moore-Girardi than DZ-Girardi.

And Torts should really adjust his shot blocking philosophy. It's led to quite a few goals against these playoffs.

Guy has a bad game and the "boohoo he stinks" crowd comes out. Shocking.

The guy has been a rock. One bad game doesn't suddenly negate everything else he's done or make him trade fodder.

I wish I had a good gif for a "knee-jerk" reaction.

What have you done for me lately!

it's not just one bad game.....he was not very good in the regular season. COUNTLESS games he sucked. Want to blame it on that Subban blocked shot? Who knows?

It is TIME TO TRADE GIRARDI while you can get GOOD VALUE IN RETURN. It is one of those moves that are hard to make, but for Cap Reasons and for the betterment of the team. Trade him to Edmonton for couple of forwards. But it must be done now before he starts breaking down.

Don't get me wrong, I like G for the most part......but you have to make shrewd moves to keep your team competitive, or better. Now is that time......move Girardi in the off-season:naughty:
