On the bright side I do think on the whole we look better in our end. I imagine that will be the first area to fully shore up with the offense coming along after.

I have been impressed with Cole's play off the puck. He's in good spots making strong defe side reads and plays. He's also starting to disrupt more in the ozone.

He isn't seeing enough of the puck yet though but that line had a couple of solid shifts in the ozone so maybe it's starting to turn for them.

I also have no issue with him building a side defensive foundation it will help with the offense in the long run.

From 10 ft away. Lol . we blaming him for picking up his man and helle looking the wrong way now.

He looked slow. I just don't get the purpose of him. Like he's not really better than ville or Samberg 5 on 5. But honestly Pionk is my biggest concern. Stan would prob be a solid 7 d. Just shouldn't be playing ahead of ville and samberg tho. Ville can play rhd too. Trade pionk first

To the people complaining about our trotting out the Stanley-Schmidt and Dillon-Pionk pairings again after last year's debacle, I'd like to point out that we have yet to realize after 3 seasons that Pionk may just be the worst regular PKer in the entire league.

JoMo locked down that first PK when Stanley was in the box. He's the teams number 1 dmen and should be played like all other teams number 1 dmens. Big minutes in all situations.

Please Understand
Pionk has in my opinion looked like shit since signing his new deal

He's had exactly one good season, and has been shot otherwise. Maybe he just needs to play against Conor McDavid more.

JoMo is their best defenseman, yet still isn't a number one defenseman. That's pretty indicative of how poor the Jets defense is - just a group 2-3-4-4-6-8. This team had it so easy with the defense it inherited from Atlanta, that they never really had to think about how to properly implement a defenseman. Now they've had all of that significant turnover, and haven't had an in-house developed top 4 defenseman since 2013. It shows.

Yup as I said in another thread the team does well with forwards but seems to lack a proper development plan with dmen.

Even the last top 4 homegrown player in JoMo wasn't expected to make it when he did. It took him changing his game and shocking Moe, Trouba holding out opening up his top 4 slot and Buff demanding he play with him to get him into the top 4. We haven't done a good job creating space for a young dmem since Trouba.

Jets did not look very good overall tonight, BUT I think we need to put this into some context, We need to acknowedge that Dallas played just an excellent game and look at this early stage to be one of the top contenders in the League, not just the Division. A nice blend of size and skill everywhere, with a good dose of youth and speed. Impressive.

Its going to be hard for the boys to gell with the new coaching given the difficult schedule ahead.

Yeah, with Seguin back playing good hockey it gives them a second dangerous line.

Throw on a good goalie, strong defense and a system that builds off of the strong defensive foundation and they have a lot of ingredients.

Let's not forget they had their way with the Preds as well so far this year. They are firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Well, we've played about two full periods of good hockey out of two games and are 1-1 without our head coach behind the bench. So, I guess things can always get better?

Well after reviewing the PVR recording...

It seems going to watch Kerri Latimer, Nicky Mehta and JP Hoe at the Park Theatre was a good move...

Couldn't lose with that lineup...

No need to comment... many prescient comments early in the GDT...

Lots of bite in those comments...

On to Colorado... :dunno:

Right. Perfecti just needs to avoid getting used up in the prolonged board battles when his real prowess is going from point to slot in the O..

I had great hopes Neal would return to form, but if he hasn’t lit the burners on the new, long two-way game, he may have shown he can’t fit Coach’s new plans..
On the other hand, if Arniel and Bowness can motivate the vets to go more cardio in training, (not bag skate) just go the distance, maybe there will be more D support in the Ozone..The eye test tonight showed that in a lot of cases, there were only 2-3 fwds up there..

It’s almost as if the faster teams intimidated our D to hang back..
Perhaps more real training sessions with the new positional system might give hope. At this point, I’m just looking for signs that the fwds and D can find the legs and wind to implement the plan.
Having the Coach on scene as incident commander would be a blessing in the next game. I don’t even care if we don’t win as long as the team can stick like glue to the plan and keeps faith in Bones.
As for slower players (we know who they are) the axe is going to fall sooner or later.
Another six games should be the maximum for seeing that improvement. A few wins with more stamina for the 2-way play (and accountability for those coasting) should give us a springboard.

bones may be back next game
🙏😆

I guess Neal Pionk is the new scapegoat, for tonight.

Dallas played well, aggressive, Jets had so much trouble generating consistent offense.

I thought the Jets PP was flat. And poorly executed. Would like to see more traffic.

Mark Scheifele, in my opinion, has been the Jets best player after 2 games.

Some thoughts …

- Inexcusable piss-poor effort. Only our second game of the year and we just had a few days off again and they looked flat. Hopefully the coaching staff bag skates them and/or reams them out. No shows like tonight were a hallmark of the Maurice era and they can’t continue.

- Another hallmark or the Maurice era: special teams kill us at times. They certainly did tonight. Can’t kill penalties and can’t score on the PP. Hopefully that improves over the course of the season.

- DeMelo with another turd of a game. Probably his worst couple since getting here but I think he plays a game that will age gracefully. He’ll get back on-track.

- Stanley wasn’t great, wasn’t terrible, but he still struggles with speed and took a couple dumb penalties. I would go Samberg next game. If we continue to struggle with offence, maybe bring up Heinola?

- Ehlers/Connor/Scheifele line looks electric at times and surprisingly decent defensively, we need consistency out of them though because if line 2 isn’t scoring either then we don’t have the forward to depth to put anything together

- Still not sold on if PLD/Perfetti/Wheeler mesh well together. All good players but I don’t know if their styles complement each other.

- Barron is looking like more and more of a steal. Could’ve had a couple goals tonight and the points will start coming eventually. That Copp trade’s early returns are looking spectacular.

- Connor Bedard and Kyle Connor together next season is gonna be sexy :D

People need to relax ... Wild are 0-3 ... Coyotes beat the Leafs ... even Bedard lottery Habs won beating the Pens..
And then somethings never change ... Maurice's Panthers went 0-5 on PP and the top line playing 23 minutes and lose.
Tough schedule for the Jets to start the season going 2-3-1 or 3-3 is still good.

Man does this team need a #1 defenseman , one that creates offense and actually has a shot from the point. Not going to win them all but we have a tough schedule coming up, Colorado, Vegas, Toronto on the road and then come home to play St.Louis. Would have been nice to win this one.

A 6 game stretch against the Rangers, Stars, Avs, Golden Knights, Leafs and Blues looks pretty damn difficult.

Hopefully the team can prove me wrong and be a different team than they have the past few years, despite the very similar looking roster.

The Leafs have already lost in regulation to last year's 31st and 32nd overall teams; I'm gonna file them under "R" for "Ripe for the pickin'" myself

Team really did not execute their game. Really poor passing and puck decisions, that all started when they stopped being aggressive and skating. It's going to take a while for them to break their bad habits, they really need their hc right now.

Stan has to come out. He was stumbling and bumbling all over. If you could make an argument for having him in the lineup it would have been against Dallas a they're a big, aggressive team, but he really didn't use his size to his advantage at all.

I agree that they need to rebalance the top 6, swapping perfetti for Connor would be a good start.
