That being said this trade favors the leafs. That is too much for Dallas to part with. I get premier goal scorer. Robertson just played his 100th game. Over the last 20 NHL seasons, Jason Robertson is the 9th highest scoring player through their first 100 career games. His total stat line: 43 goals-54 assists-97 points. Btw that is higher than Matthew’s.

it’s fine to love your guy and I love watching him too. But don’t discredit another guy who you clearly did not realize was as good as he is.

Its not down playing any player at all, but yiu under estimate the importance of superstar power especially in Toronto. He simply sells tickets single handily. These types of trade proposals are just pure entertainment and thats not a bad thing but the actual package requires to pry AM away from Toronto woukd be so crippling, the team getting AM wouldn't be competitive anyways. There is a reason crosby and ovie were not traded in thier primes

Leafs say no. Matthews is the best goal scorer in the league and pretty close to if not the best player in he league. You add a number one d man like Rielly to that deal and it pushes the deal in Dallas's favour.

3 impressive players coming from Dallas but this doesn't move the needle at all. Matthews and Rielly's combined value to Toronto is significantly higher than the others.

Heiskanen is one the top defenders, regardless of how little acknowledgment he gets. He isn’t know for his offense because the team system is shit, but he is one of the best defenders in individual expected goals for, individual scoring chances for and leads in individual high danger chances for. While playing THE hardest competition in the league and boasting some of the lowest expected goals against at 5v5.

Umm ok that's nice. Nylander had as good of a first 100 games than Kucherov and Mackinnon and some other notables so what? People need to realize as amazing as Matthews has been, he's still not a finished product. He's still literally the youngest full time forward on the Leafs roster. So Robertson's 'potential' isn't close to the level Matthews could be especially defensively. Despite Robertson's nice back-to-back hat tricks, Matthews has 36 goals in his last 37 games and is a generational goal scoring centre.

AM 34 gives Toronto a true superstar, like crosby ovie mcdavid. Its sells tickets, it sells merchandise and it draws attention. yes the leafs are successful making money but AM gives them that superstar. The absolute fave of the franchise and the next captain.
Crosby and ovie didn't get traded f9r the exact same reasons. Beside that it tells your fan base something when you decide to trade away the best goal scorer on the planet. That's why its almsot irrelevant what another team offers. They just can't make a package to replace and be competitive. Those players are good players from Dallas but Toronto puts it in the laughable pile.
There are not many players in the NHL with this kind of value. Mcdavid. Makar perhaps . Thats it.

age wise the comparable season would be matthews 19/20 season. 70games - 47goals - 33assists - 80points
robertson is very good, but not close to matthews.
