Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

You might get away with a hold or hook at times but are going to get called for a penalty if you put your stick in a guys face, even if they embellish it a bit. I get everyone looking at the number of penalties each game and being upset but the Perry and Kane penalties are going to get called damn near every time. Keep your friggin sticks down, its game 1 of the conference finals. The penalty kill is shit, the goalie blows. You can’t do dumb shit like this.

Perry should have apologized to the team for his penalty, it was inexcusable.
I guess, the team needs to kill a penalty and Stu needs to make a save. They will have to be much more disciplined, but yeah the team still needs to step up otherwise.

Appreciate the sentiment but I can't agree. There have been countless Oiler games where shit like that goes unpenalized because this is a biased, corrupt league. Case in point: Pickard getting bodychecked in his crease by L.A in game four and Kane getting crosschecked into the net a few minutes later. No penalties on either. Or Hertl flopping intentionally on Pickard's knees. No call. We're up four goalie interference calls to none in the playoffs and yet we're the ones with an injured goalie.

The, 'those penalties will always be called' statement is the biggest fallacy in hockey. The rights holding media loves to push it but it is factually untrue. Point out to me one time where the Oilers were down by two and getting dominated going into the third period and were handed three straight powerplays like that. Doesn't happen.

And remember the, 'refs dont call penalties in Oiler games either way because the Oiler powerplay is so good' argument? Let's see if that holds true now that Dallas is humming along. I guarantee it will not. Calling it now: this series will have the most powerplays of any in this year's playoffs.

Skinner won’t make the save and our pk will suck. Boys need to play like it, they have to score more than 3 and not take penalties. The pp or Skinner won’t improve.

High sticks are called 99/100 times.

Skinner was not good but the pk has been atrocious. Too much time and space for Dallas. If the PK doesn’t improve we don’t win this series with this officiating
The PK won’t improve. It’s been bad for most of the year and we have the 2nd worst PK out of every team to play in the playoffs. Team is going to have to score 6 every game. Not enough time to fix the PK or Skinner. Shit the PK hasn’t even made adjustments.

Finally sat down and caught up on the Dallas goals I missed. That 3-2 goal was awful. Ok he is screened so look around the guy you’re 6’4 stand up. The 4th goal was bad too. How do you lose track of the puck that badly?

In saying all that we didn’t get beat by the stars we got beat by ourselves. Regroup and get them on Friday. We are the better team and when it’s all over it will be evident.

He did before, they just have to protect him harder. Again, I know you're eager to quit to be "on the right side" of things, but this team will just plow forward. They don't quit or their season would be over already.

I think that was closer to the truth than any of us are willing to admit.

Gibson is a huge gamble. Big money and his seasons prior to this one weren't pretty. I wasn't a fan of that move as a result.

The only guy I thought would be a suitable upgrade while giving us some flexibility was Karel Vejmelka before he got his extension with Utah.

The pursuit should be a bit easier this year. We only have two major items to figure out (McDavid extension, Bouchard extension) this offseason which means the focus should be on the goaltending. I guess we'll find out if the market at TDL was that bad or if we're still dealing with the same ole BS in a few months.
Issue with Gibson was that he keeps leaving games injured lol, but make no mistake, almost any goalie will be an upgrade on Stuart. That's how bad his numbers are.

The PK has room for improvement but they haven’t done that yet. They haven’t made any adjustments all playoffs it’s been bad the entire time and they dont seem to be taking it as a serious issue to fix.

And it is series defining. Either they wake up and spend all day today fixing the f***ing penalty kill or they just erase the tape and lose the series. The PK is a problem that they keep ignoring.
Three of the four teams left are all at 85%+ on the PK. Then there’s the Oilers, at 62%. That is nothing short of abysmal. It’s taken a leap from the top of the ugly tree and is hitting every branch on the way down.

You should have punched yourself in the face Perry, you dumbass. Your no reason stick to the face penalty changed the game completely. You can bitch at the refs all you want, that was completely bone headed and changed everything. So much for an Oilers sweep, with this guy in net you can’t let up in front of him for a minute.

That is going to be one tough loss to swallow. Thing is many were thinking this was an easy series for the Oilers. Now after this loss we will get the they are finished crowd chiming in. I am sticking with Oilers in 6 but we need game 2, played a great 40 before imploding.
Would not disagree if they bench Perry for 1 game and put Arvy in

Hard to be 85% on the pk when your Goaltending is sub 85% on the pk.

No team gives up less than one shot per pk.

Also straight up - in terms of giving up chances our kill has been pretty good.

Slept on the loss. Still angry. It's an absolute travesty that we have 2 of the best players in the world, are in the conference finals for the 2nd straight year and everyone is praying that our AHL-level backup goalie gets healthy enough to play because our Div. 2 Germany level "starter" continues to shit the bed.

McDavid has been average for so long. Starting to think his prime is slowly fading
His prime is definitely fading. It's fact. That is why it's kind of cup or bust here.

That said I thought he came out flying last night and had a better game than some of his recent performances.

Like Jimmy says, It's unfortunate we don't have 2022-2023 Mcdavid still.

Another issue that isn’t talked about enough is the PP.

This was an issue last playoffs too, can’t score a goal when they need it. PP has been ugly for a bit, they are looking for the perfect goal and I’ll tell you that isn’t going to happen very often, need to throw it on net and bang away sometimes.
Mcdavid and Bouchard need to shoot everything.

The pass wil then start opening up.
