Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

I typically use the bible. I find praying helps.

..and I am not religious, not even a little bit.
The Oilers actually have to wipe slate clean in their minds. To just move on from it. But it gets hard after years.

You look at all the efforts on the ice the hundreds of hits Hyman throws, the great plays McD, Drai, Booch making, all the determination to bend a game with their will and skill. Then Skinner just throws it all away.

From fans we look at it as disappointing. If you've just spent all that blood, energy sweat and tears to try tog get something and your achilles heel player just giving it away again. I don't know how they do it.

If this was the Leafs they wouldn't even make playoffs with this kind of goalie.

I wouldn’t agree with that… when he plays PERFECT people reluctantly give backhanded props.

When he plays average, he still gets picked apart… to the point that any of the goalies in here have to step in and defend the onslaught.

Tonight he was bad on goals 3 and 4… zero compete.

And then Kane and Perry put things out of reach.

Plenty of guys need an attitude adjustment
I give him props when he plays well. I also call him out when he doesn’t. Unfortunately, there haven’t been all that many good games to cheer for this year…

I mean... can you argue that he was good this playoffs aside from those b2b shutouts? Why else did Picks have to go in to save the Oilers and having a 6-0 record as a result in net?
Skinner has been objectively one of the worst goalies the whole season.

If he wasn't so inconsistent in net, the criticism would be rather quiet.

We weren’t talking about this playoffs at all… this is the definition of a strawman argument.

I was talking in general, this season, and making the point that many of you can’t be objective even on a goal by goal basis… or get so emotionally tied up in a prior goal that he must be to blame for the next one too. And that’s just not reality.

so no, posting your single game, or several game, SPCT or GSAA isn’t going to convince anyone who actually understands the position.

He was terrible on two goals tonight. The rest, objectively not his fault. Those two goals mattered… a lot… anyone who’s played the position would agree he played like a kitty cat and that lost us the game.

Your underpowered n-size stats are not required here.

Isn't it rather strange that the Oilers are pretty much the same team that Pickard went 6-0 with but somehow Skinner with the same team is 2-3.

Clearly its the teams fault with Skinner.

I mean to be fair this team is very good at not letting negative momentum carry over from game to game. They basically always give themselves a chance out of the gate.

We'll probably win game 2. Then hopefully a healthy Pickard awaits in Edmonton.

Even in general this season Stuart has been objectively poor, and that's a fact.
He's 2-3 in the playoffs, that's a fact.
He got scored 4 goals on 9 shots in the 3rd, that's a fact.

Stuart Skinner has been a poor goalie this season whether its regular or playoffs, and that too is a fact.

Skinner is a disaster. Impossible to win with this guy. He didn’t even try on the fourth goal, what the f***!

These mostly uneducated hockey fans, are back to laughing at him. Yet our management and many fans in our fanbase are insistent that it isn’t true.
This is not on Skinner, this is on the whole team. A goalie isn't Cinderella two nights in a row with 2 SO and then becomes real and let's 5 in the next one.

This is on the whole team. That third period is one of the worst I ever seen. Get your shit together and play som descent PK for god sake. This is the NHL playoffs not amateur hockey i Åmål, Sweden!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Dallas plays a skilled, fast game. We either start hammering them and wearing them down or ice a more skilled lineup and out chance/depth them. Next game sit Frederic and Perry and gave each center run their own line.

Skinner-Mcdavid-Hyman
Podz-Draisaitl-Kapanen
Kane-RNH-Arvidsson
Janmark-Rico-Brown

Pray that Ekholm can play next game and sit Stecher.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Kulak
Walman-Klingberg

Hot take here. I thought the PK actually played fairly well tonight. A teams best penalty killer has to be the goalie. He was our worst penalty killer tonight. So the hard work of the penalty kill still results in terrible looking stats.

He sucks in every statistical measure across the board. The stats have been acknowledged by many goalie coaches- so not sure where you are getting that from. But aside that, you can say that xGA or GSAA is flawed- and it may be- but it would be flawed for all goalies across the NHL equally. If the measure is equally applied, which it is, Skinner’s numbers would put him at the bottom of the league.

True… except any goalie or goalie coach of any repute wouldn’t be looking at it across a 6-game sample. It’s hogwash until the numbers wash out with increased n-size…

And anyway, over a sample size that small, why trust an amalgam of ~180 transposed datapoints when you could just go back and look at the tape of the 16-20 goals that actually went in and see what could (or couldn’t) have been done better….

That’s a far more productive and informative exercise

ya why trust a former NHL goalie's opinion when we can just trust some rando on twitter instead!

Brother, Noodles and Biron have been pooping on him all year. It's not just the randos on twitter.

He hasn't been good enough. Empirically. Statistically. Whatever.

I think trusting a guy who's employed by the organization to be the single source of truth regarding goaltending might be a mistake.

Skinner is literally the only goalie on that list NOT to play in the 1980s.

Think about that.

Historically bad goaltending.

Incredible isn't it?
But how the f*** dare you, me, or anybody else say anything to criticize poor 74.

Stu mouth breathers can say whatever they want, and I'll continue to post that.
It's not a 'graph' this time so poor ol CHT can't say anything about that.
