Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

You are forgetting who is playing in goal for us.
And also who is reffing these games. Maybe Dallas Eakins was right all this time with the perfect game being zero hits because you have the puck all the time. But then the Oilers would get called for unsportsmanlike conduct for not letting the other team touch the puck.

Hilarious sequence in one Dallas pk. Skinner holding puck too long, Steele on forecheck could go right in but doesn't, then Skinner still holding puck so Steele goes for it, Skinner loses puck. Was like watching an Eagle swoop in on a frozen rabbit.

Steele: I might as well just go get the puck. he's just standing there frozen.
I freaked my dog out when I yelled at the tv when he did that. One of the dumbest things I've seen these playoffs.

Knew it was over when the floater went in to start Period 3.
Your most important penalty killer can't track a no-danger puck... 6'4 goalie trying to crane his neck around the wrong side of the screen away from the side of play. Either perfect, or crap. Either 5+ goals against or 0. No in between. No Pickard to save the series this time either if Skinner can't immediately get back on track. He had to be the best player in the 3rd and he was the worst. PK wasn't great or anything, but like do floaters like that go in from our powerplay? Not a chance. Granlund shot was perfect. Duchene goal, Skinner just like stopped playing? Was waiting to complain before the puck was even in the net? Ghastly stuff.

Two goal lead, only job is to kill the 1 minute powerplay to start, don't take dumb penalties and make Dallas chase all period 5 on 5. Silly stuff from Perry and Kane, even Duchene oversold that one.
Holy shit what an embarrassing loss. Pissed away a sure win because they couldn't focus up for 20 minutes. The sag was so obvious after goal 2, and the worst part is, Dallas got so much life from that, it was a listless powerplay until that one went in. They got reminded there's always a chance with Stuart Skinner in net.
Agree that goal was awful. He was not even trying to look around the screen , just a statue hoping it would hit him.

"because the graph says so!" isn't the argument you think it is

You truly remind me of the donkey in this segment of a family guy episode.
The graph literally shows that the Oilers controlled the game. Something you literally said "why can't the Oilers do that against Dallas? they did it in the first 2 periods."

Did you fail math that terribly in high school? Good lord.

That second goal was equal parts Nurse and Skinner's fault in my opinion. First, Marchement had both feet firmly planted IN the crease. Skinner just gave him that space for some reason. If he tried to take that space back, he would have at least got a goaltender interference call in his favour, because you can't take that space from a goalie, full stop. Second, Nurse just let him stand there and didn't even try to clear him from that space. You gotta at least try to clear that guy out if you're the defenseman there.
Agree on Skinner part...half agree on Doc. It's a PK so ...as a D... you sometimes can't commit that much to fully clear out the front. Idk if I'm even thinking right. I'm still just stunned at what I saw!

What do they even do on the PK?

"Let's not screen him and try to block em, it could go in"

"Let's not screen him and let him see it. Uh oh, it could beat him clean"

LMAO

To be fair on the PK you typically want to avoid getting into either situation because that means a shot is imminent.

The Oilers PK problems are due to poor gap control and being far too passive. The gap control part is out of my depth a bit, but basically they give up the line too easily and then don't rotate effectively enough to seal up seam pass routes. The latter is obvious, they need to pressure harder when the puck is on the wall or behind the net.

does it account for screens? quality of player? a Janmark shot isn't the same as a Granlund shot...tipping off opponents?

It qualifies all of those except quality of player - but all of the goals that went by him tonight were by players with average finishing ability so the point is moot.

That's the no second effort Skinner. Minimal effort trying to find pucks. Just dropping any time he imagines a shot is coming. Second efforts non-existent. If he's lucky enough that the first one hits him, there is going to be loads of time to put a puck into some open net if it's loose.
Yup, this is what people always talk about when they say Pickard "Battles". He would be lunging to make a nutso save

Stu typically just sits there and does nothing

You clearly didn't watch the entire game.

I'm just jk buddy.

But yeah, Skinner got caught 3X in this game and 3 more unforced errors. In games where he's this active its a sign he thinks he's better than he is. He was trying to play keepaway in another segment. I'm like don't do that, bad things happen. yuck

Hopefully Pickard is healthy soon. That way if Stu goes through another bad stretch we have some insurance. The PK has been ass this whole postseason. Maybe lineup changes are needed? Who do we have that's sitting that could PK? Philp? Savoie?

I don't think any personnel switch figures out the PK outside of one. Mattias Ekholm.

Oh ffs. McD and Drai were owning in first two periods. Oilers had a commanding lead against a Stars club that has been having trouble scoring. Theres one reason we lost tonight and one reason only.

It drives me up the bend people will blame generational players that are great while absolving the complete dope in goal.
I'm not blaming McDavid. I'm saying he's not as good as he used to be. You Drive yourself crazy lol

Didn’t he wait until we were down 4-3 for that minus the usual after an icing or PK?
Possibly. It all happened so quick. I felt we dominated in the first and second periods.

Too many brain farts on D.

Kulak had a bad game and Nurse made some dumb plays and reads. Stecher while good in the offensive zone I felt he was overwhelmed at times in his own zone.

Keep hammering their D and hope Ek comes back soon.

What concerns me most about this game is that Dallas didn't even play well. They stunk until they finally found their legs with those pp goals in the 3rd.

All our players committed mass suicide all of a sudden and Skinner couldn't stop anything. I dread to think what will happen if Skinner continues to play like this. Dallas is a really good team and they are likely going to play MUCH better than they were tonight in game 2... We were given a golden opportunity to win game 1. We didn't and this is only going to become more difficult with Skinner doing his usual thing.

Anyway, the more I talk about the angrier I get. I'm off to bed.

Agree… just zero compete on the 3rd and 4th goal.

He just lost his mind honestly.

3rd goal he has a clear look above Marchment and Nurse as Heiskanen starts his shot. It’s going generally stick side, Skinner sees that, so instead of going down butterfly, cheating stick side… you know the side that is completely open and where he’d be able to see past the screen? Nope… let me plant my face into the ass of that screen and hope. Defeatistgoaltending right there… That was just horrible.

And the forth? What a coward… he didn’t even try to get across. Complaining for contact… that was literally 5 seconds ago you kitty cat. Imagine having the opposition block a shot for you and you STILL don’t get across the net for the rebound. Dallas literally could have scored twice on that play.

Ugh, ugh, ugh…. Put me or @tardigrade81 in… at least we have the passion and gumption for it.
Maybe he just has an ass sniffing fetish? The big mustache makes him have to breathe in air harder, so he got extra up and close.

I also laugh at one of 2 Skinner fans here who says "What about games 4-7"

Who gives a f****?

How about not throwing the team into a hole every series lol.

That's like a student with a million F's and then gets a couple A's and B's at the end to give him a D grade lol Big whoop

"because the graph says so!" was such a comical response.
I don't need a graph to say that Skinner got scored from 4 goals on 9 shots in the 3rd, but CHT will deflect deflect and deflect.
it really is...you're response is "Skinner sucks cause look at this graph!"
you cant even tell me why you think the goals are bad

I wouldn’t agree with that… when he plays PERFECT people reluctantly give backhanded props.

When he plays average, he still gets picked apart… to the point that any of the goalies in here have to step in and defend the onslaught.

Tonight he was bad on goals 3 and 4… zero compete.

And then Kane and Perry put things out of reach.

Plenty of guys need an attitude adjustment

I gave him backhanded props after the first shutout. I thanked and praised him to the heavens after the second shutout.

My trust in him is gone. We just never know when "Bad Stu" will rear his head again.

And, unfortunately, with two "Good Stu" games and four "Bad Stu" games, we're twice as likely to see the latter.
