Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

They'll be back.

Team has done this time and time again, which is insanely frustrating as a fan but they have come out on the right side of things almost every time except for Game 7 of the SCF.

First 40 minutes is something to build off of. 3rd is a period to forget.
Most of us believe that. But goaltending like this alone turns what could be an easier series into a much more difficult one. Skinner doing the same thing he did in LA series, and in Vancouver series last year, and in Vegas series that we lost.

The frustration isn't just that we lost the game 1 but the way we lost and Skinner handing the Stars a W. So many times this happens. No other contender team has to overcome their own goalie.

You have to beat the other team, the officiating, and the dud you have in net.

Ok, have to take that back.

Oilers love shooting themselves in the foot. Why can;t they control their damn sticks in a 3rd period up 3-2.
They really needed to kill the last minute on the carryover penalty, figured they would since some time would be wasted at the face off.

I honestly believe if they kill that minute that we win this game.

Especially when high sticking is one of the only calls referees will make nearly 100% of the time when they see it no matter if it's pre-season or OT Game 7. There is no looking the other way on this one. We take this stupid penalty constantly and after a while it isn't bad luck.

He looked shaky yes. This is something that the team likely knows. This is why the team can't take 3 bonehead penalties in a row.

Skinner was bad. But this was a collective meltdown. The team handed the stars a W.

What is the best way to expose your goalie when he's having an off night? Take 3 penalties in a 5 minute span.

Can complain about Skinner all you want, and don't get me wrong I think he was brutal, but that game is winnable without a parade to the box.

And you could argue a save or two there wins you the game. But you do not arrive in that situation if the penalties do not happen.

Yeah, those were legit penalties although I'd argue that the Kulak one was soft, one of the Dallas penalties was soft as well so it evened out. Need a big save, that's the story of this game. This reminded me of the Vegas series in 2023 when the Oilers controlled a lot of the play in a few of the losses but Vegas scored some goals in bunches and that was the game, need some big saves from your goalie sometimes.

I wouldn't go that far especially in Game 1. We'll be back.
This is EDM. We somehow made the finals with Skinner.

We know EDM doesn;t "quit"

I will panic if they fall down 3-0

I will just stop watching and hope after that

You know what they say, you are only in trouble once you lose at home.

Like I said all week, Skinner is the x-factor. You can even rely on him to save the pk here and there.

It is going to be tough sledding. Skinner had pretty much no work until the 3rd.

This team needs to score even more. Skinner is legit probably going to finish the playoffs with a sub 880

I never played pro hockey, but I will never understand how you can high stick guys so easily.

I guess it is stupid stick lift attempts at bad times?

Just pure idiocy from these guys.
On that one in particular, Duchene was moving his stick up when Kane's stick came in and it kind of knocked Kane's stick into Duchene's face. A bit of bad luck, but there was really no reason for Kane to get his stick in there in the first place.

Not sure what point youre trying to make.

Skinner needs to have one of those PP goals. Pick one, any one.
Skinner can be above average, and he can be the guy that continues to build on the record of worst sav% for any goalie a team has allowed to play as much games as he has in the playoffs.

Right now, we are back to abysmal Skinner. And we just gotta figure out a way to play a full game limiting quality chances to overcome it, like we did against Vegas.

He actually tried to peak over top. Which in goalie school is one of the first things they tell you not to do.
He was standing straight up for some reason, all that did was make the target of him getting hit with the puck smaller. A tough save for sure but a more technically sound goalie finds a way to at least attempt to get in the way of that one.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. On to game 2.

We are the better team 5v5.

PK needs to find a way to do something.

I won’t fault skinner much, I’d like a save on goal 5. Goal 4 was terrible too.

Oilers need to finish their chances.
Goals 2 and 3 are brutal goals. There’s traffic. It’s the playoffs. Maybe don’t stare at the guys back that’s right in front of you and do nothing but go down. If skinner fights for position and gets bumped by the guy standing two feet in the crease it’s goalie interference. And as a bonus he may fight to get in position to make the save.
