Post-Game Talk: Dallas Does Skinner

Stupid penalties and the PK cost us. I thought we completely controlled the game at 5 on 5, but we need to sort out our special teams.

Their PK has been bad all year and playoffs. I don't see that changing. It is what it is. They need to play disciplined and they have too many undisciplined players.

The irony is, that for a long time special teams was our forte, and now that our 5x5 is actually working our special teams have been way below average.
I think, on the PK in particular, it's a change in personnel. Our defence last year were really good at boxing out and blocking shots (Ceci/Ekholm/Desharnais). Looking at the goals tonight, we're collapsed at the net and in the shooting lane, but if you can't block the shot, all you're doing is screening the goalie.

Skinner turned a W into an L. Almost all by himself. Yet again. Its significant. It gives Dallas hope after having little of it the first two periods. A road W in game one is monumental. Skinner gave the game back. What a backbreaker goal to give up at start of third. Then the next one, and next one, and next one. I never wanted to see this fool back in our net again.

Whats it gonna take. The homecrowd jeering "Skinner" "Skinner". Somehow the home crowd loves this tool.
We could have easily lost the series against LA in 4, but we had Pickard. We don’t have Pickard now, and Dallas is a much better team than LA was.

Another issue that isn’t talked about enough is the PP.

This was an issue last playoffs too, can’t score a goal when they need it. PP has been ugly for a bit, they are looking for the perfect goal and I’ll tell you that isn’t going to happen very often, need to throw it on net and bang away sometimes.

It’s a total mess. The power play is basically pass it to McDavid, then watch him skate around before he inevitably turns it over after deferring on a few looks at the net.

McDavid has been average for so long. Starting to think his prime is slowly fading
Oh ffs. McD and Drai were owning in first two periods. Oilers had a commanding lead against a Stars club that has been having trouble scoring. Theres one reason we lost tonight and one reason only.

It drives me up the bend people will blame generational players that are great while absolving the complete dope in goal.

The goaltender with his 4th game this post season with a SV% below .820 is more to blame then anything else.

That's 66% of his starts that he's 3 standard deviations worse than the historical performance of EBUGs.
Might be yeah, I haven't really followed Oilers this year. Kinda felt like Skinner wasn't at his best either, but I think he can do better.

I agree, but that's what's most frustrating. Heading into the third, message #1 has to be just stay out of the box. This isn't Vegas or LA- Dallas isn't really mixing it up physically. Several of the penalties (e.g. Perry crosschecking someone in the face) were just losing their temper.

This feels very similar to last year. Everyone pegged us as the underdogs, saying Dallas is deeper then us, better goaltending, etc. I felt after watching us play we could beat them and win the series.

Fast forward to tonight's game and even though we lost game 1, I feel the exact same way. We just have to play a full 60 minutes of hockey and be more disciplined and we should have no problem taking the series. Keep the forecheck going and keep hitting them and wear them down, Dallas isn't that physical. Also keep putting pucks on net, Oettinger is beatable and we had 3-4 get by him tonight that hit the post.

Dallas Stars doing absolutely nothing on PP for 2 periods and well into the one they had to start third.

Stu Skinner: hold my beer. I'll give them a free goal like I'm not even in the net. COMPLETELY changes everything in the game. Third goal wasn't good. Skinner who is big, real big, somehow too low. 4th goal was lol of the playoffs. It just keeps coming.

Skinner in one period handed Stars confidence in scoring and confidence on PP. You complete f***ing dope of a goalie.

The Dallas PP was basically hinged on having Stu Skinner in net. Gee guys if we can just get any zone entries and get any shot on goal theres a chance....
