Sorry can’t read the article
All I can see is they chose not to show game5 and 6. Sounds like they had a choice to make. I wonder what it was
Roger’s does hold the rights after all and the only reason the CBC got any games at all was because the NHL “requested” that HNIC remained a thing when awarding that contract

CBC chose to air 3 shows that almost nobody gives a shit about instead of the West game. But still choose to air the East Finals.

“Canadian” Broadcasting Corp my ass.

Florida is the best forechecking team in the league. I do hope EDM can handle it consistently in their own zone if both teams end up advancing.
Yeah people think Florida will be easy are delusional that is a great team. After saying that rangers look horrid can’t even get into scoring area. We have mcdrai

Tomorrow is simply a formality, we broke them in game four.
Now, if only the fighting morons in the Moss Pit and the upper decks would get lost, the spring would be perfect
This is horrible mentality. Underestimate your opponent at your peril

What I enjoy most about HF is the fact that it's been steady since I joined here. At that time I was 24 years old. My wife whom passed away from cancer frequently posted on here too. I'm now 44 and enjoying everything that HF has to offer. The younger hardcore fans joining us older fans that once were just as young and passionate as they were is just awesome. Let's get the 5 more wins because we all deserve it!
I’m sorry.

Not that I disagree with you but to be fair, since the last deal was made, they make zero advertising revenue from the broadcasts of NHL hockey
So
I suppose that factors into these weekend programming decisions
Again
I don’t agree with the decision but that bit of information makes it a bit more understandable I suppose

Hey
I just think it’s ok for us to show a bit of confidence finally
Besides
I’m just some schmuk on a message board, it’s not like I’m going to be taking any face offs or anything

The problem is that they asked to air the games, agreed to air the games and then backed out of the western games. If it were the Leafs Habs or Ottawa the games would be on. It’s paid for by all taxpayers, not just eastern ones.

I give the CBC zero understanding. They can respectfully F all the way off.

I have no clue what you’re referring to in your second paragraph.

You replied the above to me. What are you referring to? Our conversation was about your saying Rogers didn’t give the CBC the game.

That was a response to another poster
It doesn’t show up like that in your view?

Not only dumb, it counters their history and origins and how they even came to exist. NHL playoff hockey, and Saturday night televised hockey were CBC biggest tickets for decades. The televising of the games transcended hockey it was kind of a nation building and gathering around the tube to see the one game a week or several games during playoffs.

We all know the CBC wouldn't be making this decision if it were the leafs.

hard not to feel this is just another affront to Western Canada, to Edmonton.

What do they put on instead? Will anybody watch that?

Further reason their plug is pulled. Ceased to be the Nations broadcaster long long ago.

As much as I can't stand CBC, it's a sorry shame to see how far HNIC has fallen.

When I first became a hockey fan as a kid in the 2000's, our family didn't have cable, so HNIC over the antenna was my go-to. My earliest hockey memories include The Hockey Theme, Don Cherry, Bob Cole and Harry Neale on the 5 pm Leafs game, and then Don Wittman, Mark Lee, or Jim Hughson on the 8 pm western game if my parents let me stay up late. Saw a lot of the 2006 run over antenna as well.

Then 08-09 was the season where CBC lost the rights to The Hockey Theme, and it all seemed to slide downhill from there, even before the Rogers monopoly.

I have extreme confidence that Oilers get it done here. McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard, the rest of the crow will grab the game at helm and will Oilers to the finals. I just don't see these guys getting denied. The leadership group will all have big games.

Yes, but it's a totally different cultural and media landscape right now. For one thing, Canada is a different country than it was even 20 years ago. HNIC, I suspect, no longer carries the same emotional significance to younger people, regardless of their background. Many were not even born in Canada (the population increased by 5 million during this time). Then there is just so much more hockey and sports available through various means. Basically, for 20 dollars a month, you can get many regular season and literally all of the playoff games. I mean I liked HNIC with Ron and Don, but I no longer watch the show even online, much less on TV.

I used to have a tiny black and white in my room; no cable access. During those "late" Saturday nights, I would put a wire hanger in the back for a clearer picture. Those were the days.

Indeed. I've been here for 17 years, since they started sucking. Was brought to this site by the discussions of the upcoming 2007 draft.

No love for “Front Page Challenge” or “The Tommy Hunter Show?”

:D

Henrique looks like he just got back from taping a full season of “Wicked Tuna”.
