This is not well thought out. First, Andersson can’t agree to an extension till July. Second, what is Andersson demanding? That could scare teams away if it’s too much. Finally, Dallas would never move that much for Andersson. I get he has a ton of value but not Bourque, Bichsel and 2026 1st. Dallas doesn’t need to dump dumba to drive up the price.

Calgary is still pushing for a playoff spot, and it's not looking like they will collapse based on their current gameplay, so I don't expect Andersson to be available.

Do you have need for Andersson, as a rental for this and next year (maybe 50% retained)?

Or need to have him agree a deal before the trade, so basically sign and trade.

Or maybe no need at all, since RD is not a particular need for you.

Anyway, what would you offer in those first two cases.

As for the trade, with Heiskanen, Harley, Lindell and Andersson all locked in, I'd be more comfortable letting Bichsel go, but damn he's going to be so good. Bourque is looking like a no-go because our top-9 is going to be picked apart over the next two offseasons and he's really starting to figure it out. Besides - the initial proposal was way too much anyway.

I see the Flames hanging onto Andersson, at least until the off season, when a difficult conversation about his future will occur. Right now they are competing with Vancouver, St. Louis, and Utah for that last spot. Vancouver has problems. St. Louis is not playing great, and Utah is a bit of a long shot. The odds makers have the Flames as the favorite for that last spot, at 57.5%.

The Flames are missing a #1 centre and an offensive D-man for their PP. The Flames are always on the lookout for that, almost never happens, center deal. Any centre they do bring in has to be better than Kadri and Backlund, and not upset the chemistry.

If they are making any changes, the most likely changes are a PP specialist and/or a 4th line centre. The Flames actually have some of the best depth in the league. It's their top end that's hurting.

Stars fans definitely covet Andersson but the reason the Stars continue to remain relevant is they have refused to sell the farm for a short-term solution. Even the Zuccarello deal they eventually let him walk to give up less.
