If I’m Guerin I’m probably pushing my chips in the center this season. Having a couple of untouchable chips makes sense but at some point you have to give to get. If you’re not trading any of your top 5 or 6 prospects and don’t have a first you’re not receiving any difference making players, and you put yourself at risk to get bounced out in the first round again, which at this point should be fully unacceptable.

Personally I'd save some ammo. We probably are not as good as our record, an add wouldn't hurt but I am holding onto our best chips for now. Once ek is back our center depth is good and we always have Hartman as a backup. If the market is too expensive for Nelson we can pick up a wing and see what happens.

But, I do not see a fit between Isles and Wild -
The Wild do not have 2025 1st, so not sure what the main piece the Wild could offer - a second and Ohgren or Heidt is not going to cut it. I think Carolina and Dallas could top that.

Either of these options are more valuable than a late 1st and the type of prospect that's usually included in these deals lol

The only way Nelson becomes available is if Lou can't sign him to a reasonable 2 or 3 year extension.

I would not trade Ohgren or Heidt alone for Brock Nelson let alone add a 2nd.

I like Nelson , he’s a good player. He’s also an old rental and the Wild are farther than a Nelson away from contending.

Lou might legit add with the Islanders winning the last 3 of 4 and getting reinforcements back very soon. Crazy ass old dude  But Dallas would be a pretty damn good landing spot for Nelson and then obviously him returning him home to Minnesota too

Yeah, Friedman already poured cold water on the Nelson rumors. Lou only know how to do one thing.

If the isles lose to Chicago and the rangers win a couple it’ll look like a pretty uphill battle though. Something has got to give

Nelson plays LW too but I hear you. Feels like a good year with the Avs a little dysfunctional and the blues probably not going to make it. Still, I don’t envy coming in first or second and getting one of Edmonton/Dallas/Colorado/Vancouver in the first round

you can laugh all you want -Would prefer the first (even if its low) + prospect. And he’ll keep your guys - I doubt Heidt can stay at C.

LeBrun reporting that Nelson is unlikely to extend and intends to test free agency

NYI is last in the Met and has just a 5.8% chance to make the playoffs per Moneypuck. Would be crazy not to trade him IMO, especially given the paucity of high end rentals available this year.

What is a realistic return right now?

Bad timing for the Isles as he's on pace for his worse season statistically since 2017/18. He has a 16 team NTC which could further limit the return.

Yea we’ve heard from multiple sources over and over again that the Stars and Wild make sense for him. I think the Canes would love him as well but they won’t want to give up value similar to Guentzel. Leafs and Knights would probably love him but they don’t necessarily have the ammo that the others do. Boston, Vancouver, and Winnipeg could also be suitors. Just shows how almost every team could use a 2C for a playoff push.

Minnesota should just pursue him in free agency. No point in trading assets in a year we are still hampered by the huge buyout and injuries are hitting hard.

Agreed , this year isn’t the year to make any moves especially for a guy who may prefer us as a destination in FA

Nelson has been pretty clutch in the post season who has potted 3 30 goal campaigns in a row playing center. No doubt the isles will be getting a first plus a prospect and an nhl player. The demand will call for it.

Nelson to the LA Kings is my guess. For what I leave to all you experts. He will sign there and have his acting career close by too.

Buyouts go down almost $13 million next season. Faber and Rossi likely eat a big chunk of that.

Guerin can't wait too long. He has a veteran core. Is Kaprizov going to re-sign after this year? Or play towards UFA. Zucc and Spurgeon don't have too much left.

Can't really go into rebuild if you have a premier star.

Tough spot. I think the Wild are in here. Without Eriksson-Ek not a lot of size at the top of the lineup. Or depth at center.

Rebuild is already done. The team will likely be adding Yurov/Ohgren/Buium/Jiricek/Wallstedt as regulars to next year’s team. Heidt/Stramel are wild cards. It’s not 100% necessary to do anything. If they can add some guys for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round picks then they should be all over it.

Eriksson Ek has started skated from what I heard.
