You are re-affirming my statement that islanders fans think a team needs to pay for what Nelson has done in past seasons. Not what he currently is.I suspect that if we were interested in Marco Rossi, we should forget he has 2 more NHL goals in his career of 145 games than Nelson had last year alone . . . Nelson is considered the #1 target for the deadline by at least one major TSN columnist, so if you think he's available for a 2nd and your 23rd rated prospect, good luck with that!
Rossi is 23, 10 years younger than Nelson, and currently pacing 29 goals and 72 points. An argument that people should de-value Rossi because he didn’t score 30 in his 21 and 22 year old seasons screams lack of intelligence. He has been on an upward trajectory.
Nelson is 33 years old and currently pacing 22 goals and 46 points. He is an expiring contract. His value should solely be based on this year as the teams acquiring him are only looking for ~3 months of help THIS season. He’s been on a downward trajectory. 75 points to 69 points to now pacing less than 50. His value shouldn’t be high. He is declining.
