LeBrun: Dallas and Minnesota interested in Brock Nelson

Why the hell would Nelson even entertain such a deal at his age?
A home town deal to stay is not unheard of. If you want to give a 34 year old a long term deal at 7m - 8m a year, trade for him. He must be worth alot.

Buyouts go down almost $13 million next season. Faber and Rossi likely eat a big chunk of that.

Guerin can't wait too long. He has a veteran core. Is Kaprizov going to re-sign after this year? Or play towards UFA. Zucc and Spurgeon don't have too much left.

Can't really go into rebuild if you have a premier star.

Tough spot. I think the Wild are in here. Without Eriksson-Ek not a lot of size at the top of the lineup. Or depth at center.
Probably ~$12M in space next year with Rossi and another top 6/9 forward to account for. Maybe a little less depending on bonus situations.

Nelson is from Minnesota so I can’t think of a better fit. Plus they could use a center like him for sure.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade for him and then extend him at a home town discount for a few years…

Minnesota has zero cap now because of injuries! The reporter who covers wild just said they can’t even afford a call up

He’s from Warroad

He had Minnesota Wild pajamas when he was a kid

To be fair, that's technically in Minnesota
cool, also even though my effect is nonexistent or minor, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure Wild don’t get him

Decent win against Blues yesterday btw
I didn't get to watch unfortunately, the score looked fun though

Not sure why cap is an issue?

Wild can send a player back and NYi can also retain a little on Nelson cap hit.
Wild don't really have anyone to send back. I guess they could send someone like Johansson or Merrill, but that's 2M or less and I'm not convinced they wouldn't rather keep those guys in case injuries happen.

He spends his offseasons training in MN. I remember an offseason story he was skating a lot in a group with Kaprizov. Hes very much a MN hockey guy which is prob why Russo is so bullish on him ending up in MN one way or the other.
I know he does because I know his nanny for his kids and she goes with them to Minnesota

The implication that someone from Warroad would consider themselves more canadian than Minnesotan is pretty hilarious if you know anyone from that region, especially a hockey player. LOL
I didn’t mean it like that

4 points in 17 games. Hasn’t scored a goal since November 27th.

Pretty safe to say that the Wild won’t be offering something like 2nd+Heidt anymore.
3 years in a row of popping in 30 plus a year along with being a proven clutch playoff performer negates that

One month of poor play on a anemic and uninspired NYI team does not change that. Isles will get their 1st plus for Brock Nelson . Just my 2 cents

Did you mean it like he was a Winnipeg Jets fan because they're closer, even though he was 5 years old when they moved to Phoenix?

Or that he would be living in Warroad if he got traded to either team, even though he hasn't probably lived there in 20 years?

Dying to find out what the intent of your comment was. I'm sure you'll think of the point in the next couple days

17 games won't impact his trade value.

I’m sure teams are lining to trade 1st+ for a guy who hasn’t scored a goal since November. lol

I'd still love Nelson on this team but not at the expense or replacing Rossi, if that's a choice we have to make. We should have extended Rossi before the season started. Now he's going to cost significantly more than he would have. Not sure what kind of discount Nelson would accept for re-signing but I mostly think that's BS anyway.
