Speculation: Dale Weise: "I'm not going to lie, I know there's a good chance I'll be traded."

Trade for 2nd please. Habs should learn their lesson and reduce salary of bottom 6 to try to get a actual top 6 forward. Having a bunch of mediocre players making 2-4M clearly doesn't work.

Weise is probably going to get $3+ million from someone. We can't afford to pay 3rd liners, even good ones, that much. He will be missed but I'll gladly take a 2nd rounder for him.

Problem with Weise is.. he's a Desharnais in MT's eyes.

I want Weise back, at a reasonable price, but not if MT is the coach.

Weise is a 3rd liner, nothing more. Yet, routinely used on the PP and the top line.

Yup - totally agree. Weise is an ideal bottom-six forward. His skill set, his dedication to the Habs, his ability to step up in the playoffs -- I love this guy. But too often he's been used as something he's not, which isn't his fault and is totally the fault of the coach.

If MT is back, he's the problem. I wouldn't handicap the lineup because of him. MT should be canned regardless.

This. It's moronic to base your asset management on a moronic coach. He shouldn't be part of the equation, we should provide the next coach with the best players we can.

He never made proper money in his career. It's not the time for him to take a discount for the sake of it. I completely understand his position. He can easily get 3-3.5 on the market. If we were very close to the Stanley Cup I would have given him this type of money, but since we're not remotely close then I'd stay away and trade him for a 2nd.

I really like what Weise has done with his time in MTL but the reality is the salary cap is not going up so I think Dale might be in tough for a raise.
I'm probably in the minority in this thinking but this last summer guys with more career points were only getting offered PTO.
If I am Dale any team that offers 2-3 year contract I would be signing fast. This is not saying Weise is a bad player I'm just pointing out that the salary cap hurts 3rd and 4th liners because all the big money is going to the star players.

I don't think it makes sense to re-sign him unless it's dirt cheap. We have Ghetto, Hudon, and especially Carr pushing for top 9 spots next year.. and we need to shed salary to acquire a top 6 forward, probably through letting go of Gilbert/Scrivens and one of Eller or Desharnais.

Hopefully we get a second or a high third. We'll have a nice amount of top 90 picks, and two seconds in the first half of the round. They should give us a lot of room for Timmins to set up shop.

Never came to your mind that Weise got time on the top-6 because the main weakness of the team is there. We lack a legit #1 C and a RW. So easy to blame MT for everything.

This.

Unfortunate because I like Weise, but this is another type of move that can be an addition by substraction as MT will lose another of his favourites. We have a whole slew of young talent that can fight for top 9 positions like Hudon, Carr, Ghetto and maybe even Lehkonen for next season.

By taking away MT's vets he will be forced to play the young guys, and that's exactly what this club needs right now with so many young players on the fringe of making the NHL. Need a good long hard look and some confidence from the coaching staff, not something they will get from MT.

We lack a legit #1 C because MT refuses to develop the one we have.
The RW is a problem, but when Andrighetto/Carr scored goals, they were demoted, scratched and sent down to the AHL.

I really hope we dont trade Dale

not trading him would end up biting us in the butt just like Shayne Corson. He wanted to stay when he was a UFA but ended up signing with the leafs. Dale is great but we will not have the cap room to pay 2-3 million dollars for another third or fourth liner

Winnik him. If he doesn't come back oh well Lessio/Carr can take over his role albeit from the left side. Right side will be able to give more offense with Ghetto getting a full time top 9 role next year. Though I suppose that means DSP would be in our current projected top 9 as the third line RW.

He doesn't refuse to develop anything...come on. Galchenyuk did play center on the second line for the first part of the season. The weak top 6 situation forces MT to change things around. It is what it is.

Andrighetto and Carr were not sent down due to MT  Where do you get this stuff ?

Asset management basically means if you can get a decent draft pick you take it. He won't do us any good when we miss the playoffs. If they really like him bid for him in FA in the summer.

I don't know what you're smoking. Have you just not watched MT's entire tenure here?

And don't mistake any of this for me giving MB a pass. I think he's one of the worst GMs in the league. Shackling one leg to each of Sly and MT speaks volumes about his incompetence.

I think he owns a nice place in Brossard or Chambly...
Let him gain further playoff experience with another team, and if he wants to come back on July 1st at a reasonable rate, than I have no problems taking him back.

Actually, that's what might help sell Weise off for more than he's worth. Thanks MT, for once one of your silly gambling distortions may actually pay off (even though it did rob a more deserving player of those opportunities Weise was handed).

Matthias got a 4th + decent prospect

Weise should get a 3rd at the very least

I don't think Chucky is the legit #1 C we are looking for, but even if he is, if you move him to center then you have one more hole on the wing. Carr and Andrighetto are no better than Weise and are smaller.

If we can get a 2nd for him, it would be epic... still remember when we got him and we all said a collective "who ?". Hope they trade him and get good assets.

What is "epic" about a 2nd round draft pick. Many of them never make any kind of mark in the NHL - except PK of course ;)
