A very good move by Dallas ? Granlund went to the Sharks as a cap dump. The Granlunds are the most mid players in the NHL. Ceci is worse than mid.

This is the most Jim Benning trade since Jim Benning
 
Was hoping Blumel went the other way to SJ. This one looks like a loss to Dallas and another win for Grier.

The 2nd place team in the West added a hell of a center as a 3C--a guy who has been producing steadily for the bottom team in the league in a variety of roles. Added for a late first.

One of the bottom teams got a 1st for expiring deals.

I see it as a win-win for both teams. at the moment.

Imagine if Dallas did something really stupid like trade JT Miller for Filip Chytil though.

This is the most cookie cutter deadline deal there will be in the NHL. Why are some people complaining?

Your rant is more or less irrelevant to my point. If you can find where I said, "Dallas should take on additional long-term cap liabilities", then I'll concede.

They could try to acquire a better UFA defenseman than Ceci. Pettersson was just traded. Provorov is out there. And their cap hits are barely higher than Ceci's.

That's your opinion. He is very useful as a 3rd pairing RD who can fill in in a top 4 role if your are in a pinch while adding leadership and experience.

It's sad the disrespect some Internet dorks show this guy.

Dallas doesn't need anymore LD.

The only other upcoming UFA RD worth anything is Savard, who very well may not even be available.

Ceci has been a good depth defender for a number of playoff teams. He has almost 90 playoff games. As long as he's not asked to do too much, he's fine.

Lot of negativity towards Granlund in this thread.

Dude has been fantastic for two seasons — didn’t pout, was a fantastic leader and mentor for our guys, and looked very good for long stretches. He’s fast, he’s shifty as hell, he has a great, accurate shot and he can kill penalties. Dude does everything. He’s not a shut down center by any means but he’s no empty calorie player. Give the guy some respect.

in terms of what dallas got, this trade reminds me of the kind of lowkey tdl depth trades that contenders used to make before the salary cap. add a few semi-washed physically durable vets who can play responsibly down the lineup and will hopefully rise to the occasion when needed in the playoffs.

there's no doubt dallas ran out of warm bodies last year so i see the logic. i am still skeptical this is a viable strategy but you never know.

the price paid to sj was high and full marks to grier for getting it.

being fantastic on a losing team when all the offence runs through you and you get absurd amounts of ice time and don't need to play defence is not the same thing as being fantastic on a decent team .

just ask erik karlsson.
 
Eastern Conf. 17th placed Penguins is a decent team?

Granlund has been good for a few seasons, will be fun to see him in the Stars

Laughton is the Golden Child of the Flyers Front Office and will probably retire to become their next trash GM. He should've been moved two seasons ago but culture always trumps skill in Philly. Plus he hasn't pissed off Torts but honestly, only young guys aren't allowed to make mistakes. The veterans can eat lead paint chips at center ice while Clarke and the gang fondle themselves into infinity.

Yeah, as we all know, playing for a bad team is much easier than playing for a good team.
