No one is more wrong than bern and no one thinks more highly of himself than bern.
There was once a guy on this site that thought Martin Skoula had more "puck poise" than prime Niklas Lidstrom. The Rangers board many years ago, like 2005, had a few guys that thought Petr Prucha was better than Sidney Crosby. There are at least two Leafs posters currently that think the playoffs don't matter that much because it's a smaller sample size than the regular season. There's a Habs troll that thinks that Slafkovsky might be better than Auston Matthews in 3 years.

This site has a long, storied history of buffoonery. I don't think bern even cracks the surface tbh.

He’s looked good and has filled a top 4 role all preseason. could be a win win if he couldn’t crack the Rangers top six

Yeah, and honestly, there have been quiet few instances like this the last years were NYR assets have been very underrated in the public opinion, gone for much more than expected — and then still out-performed the return they generated. Neal Pionk in Winnipeg is a good example.

He looks so little in that goal video. Good he's scoring for Dallas thus far, they gave up a lot for him. Hopefully he finds better success in Dallas.

I don't think you'll find many NYR who soured on him or wanted him gone. There just wasn't an opportunity here. You never know, he might have been able to play the left side with Schneider beating out Jones, but it didn't seem like that was highly in his favor. Good to see him getting a clear shot with potential top 4 opportunity.

I hope he does well when the games that matter begins.

But that price is still top high given the situation.

Basically proven nothing at the NHL level and has a trade request going and lands a 1st

Schneider better be good for the rangers sake
no concerns there.

happy nils is doing well. just wasnt the opportunity he wanted here. said it when we made the trade that it wasn't the overpayment it was made out to be, nils will be a solid player. we're just fortunate enough to have fox and braden left no doubt in the pecking order

He played on the top pair with Heiskanen, Scored on the PP in the Minny game It's a small, few game sample size, but so far, he's what we needed badly on the right side, and will get better.
That is good to hear. I think it shows that all of the "WTF" reactions in this thread were by people who knew virtually nothing about Lundkvist. There is no guarantee he will be a star, but those of us who have followed his career so far know what kind of potential he has.

If Lundkvist can settle in to a top pairing or even top-4 role in Dallas over the next few years then I like this deal even more.

The rangers are abundant with talent and prospects with the lure and endless money of attracting just about every free agent and US college star they wanted. Could be a mini dynasty. Just begs the question, why only (1) cup since 1940?

Different type of players. Rangers didn't have a player to pair up with Nils should they have went with him him over Schneider. I don't think the thought of Jones/LundKvist together at an NHL level had them getting giddy. There just wasn't an opportunity here. Maybe if Robertson was a head of schedule and took the next level you could argue he could make up the difference playing with Lundkvist, but that didn't happen.

There's no real scenario where the Rangers lose by trading a player who wasn't going to play. Whether playing him was the right decision or not is another story. But he wasn't playing so they got back an asset for him. Hopefully he becomes good or even great for Dallas and it's a win/fantastic trade in history for them. We're not bitter about him potentially being great elsewhere.

Honestly he doesn't really look like the same player he was in NYR. Seems faster and is playing with a little more offensive flair.

My original take on this trade looks bad :( Might just be the Rangers weren't using him properly due to the talent they had in their top 2 pairings.

As someone who is no fan of the Rangers, I am just so damn glad they ended up with Kakko and Laf instead of like Power and Makar or Matthews.

The salary cap was the best thing to happen to them as it prevented paying over the top players, or making whacky trades for any big name star. So there's no point in talking about prior years. Beyond that, they've been a good team for the most part through-out the salary cap era. It's tough to win. There's 32 teams now. Hayes, Vesey, (Gilroy LOL),Fox, who would have eventually forced his way - it's not like there's 25 guys over that salary cap span that has a ton of success in college and forced their way to NYR.
