It's paying for what he is now. We are in an era where elite RFAs will be paid what they're worth, and UFAs will be less overpaid than previously.

Paying for potential?


He's a top tier #1D already. There's no paying for potential here. If Dallas had won the cup last year he'd be a 21 year old Conn Smythe trophy winner.


This is a fantastic deal for Dallas as they sign there franchise cornerstone for 8 years at a very reasonable number.

Gotta keep in mind of what team he plays for here. Dallas doesn’t put up a ton of offense and he also has Klingberg to share time on the PP

But when it comes to the defensive side of things, I’d say he’s one of the best in his age group
