The pick Chi gets for Darling is a late 3rd round pick they got from Ott, so not far from a 4th anyway. It was the last of their 3 3rd round picks in this draft. It was well worth it for them to get the man they wanted.

Some GMs are friends and are more inclined to help one another out. They had done business recently with the Teuvo/Bickell trade.

Also got to think that Carolina and Chicago had spoke and there was an understanding between the two that Darling would sign in Carolina. I think it's very possible that Bishop doesn't get signed by Dallas although it's kind of felt like destiny for a while now this would happen.

Work to do, but it's only the start of the off-season. They were not far from being able to contend the year before. Better system, potentially substantially better defense, hopefully for them not another debilitating rash of injuries, etc.

Technically that's untrue. He missed a handful of games in two post-seasons. He was injured in one season and played 60+ games in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

Really happy the Flames aren't in on him. Dallas will overpay long term and Bishop will show that this season wasn't a fluke. Never go in long term for big bucks on a goalie after a bad season. Rule Number 1.

I'm actually happier now than I will be if the Flames get another goalie.

Nill replaces Ruff with a more Defensive coach, trades for a better goalies (rights) and it's only May, Nill will add at least one more top 4 defender. Doesn't seem like he's wasting anytime getting Dallas back to being a playoff team

Who would be the backup if Lehtonen is moved? The whole point of bringing in Niemi was that the year before a backup didn't win a start until the beginning of April.

Hoping for 4 years or less. Honestly don't care about the cap hit.

Can't imagine him signing for less than 4 years - and even that seems pretty short. Am expecting something a lot closer to 5/6 years.

He is without a doubt the best goalie available this off season. Goalies as good as Bishop don't often make it to free agency. They will probably end up having to give him a massive deal but he will make the Stars a much better team.

The Stars have plenty of cap space. Kari only has one year left. He can easily be the backup.

Just an FYI, that's not legal. The lowest paid year of a contract cannot be less than 50% of the highest paid year. And that aside, I don't think he'll sign a 4 year contract.
