Should’ve drafted Makar
I know we wanted both of them to be awesome, but I think this time with them tells us some things about them. They both have the hockey IQ thing going for them, but neither has any elite skill to push them into top line stud potential. I think both top out as second line offensive producers, which is still a nice find given where each was drafted.I have two questions for everyone...
Would you have preferred to give up Mav or Stank in this trade?
Who do you think Carolina wanted more? Mav or Stank?
Up until the last month or so, I would have preferred to keep Stank over Mav.
Love Stank and hope he has a great career.
Since hockey rules require us to compare guys to fellow countrymen if they're European or to prior guys on your favorite team if they're North American, I liken Bourque to Dave Gagner. Seems like a guy who can put up some good numbers on your second line but who is more pretty good at everything versus awesome at anything. A nice and well-rounded player.
I think Stankoven could have the higher ceiling but Bourque has the higher floor. And I think this is why we see Bourque was able to find his NHL footing faster than Stankoven. Stankoven might be a bit better in the future, but Bourque is better for the Stars this season.
