He was given numerous opportunities to play RW with Hintz and Robertson and never ran with them. With that being said, he wasn't given much PP time and I do expect him to produce more in Carolina. I like Stankoven a lot and I hope he has a great career.
hes great and has a ton of potential.. his size is still a detriment, but he seems smart enough to eventually work with it or occasionally use it to his advantage

this year hes a little stankbitten
cost controlled capable youth that will likely thrive in carolina’s sys

Not if they keep getting players to sign for less.

Teams didn’t rebuild until the cap. They just kept buying. It’s possible that teams will become haves and have nots now with the cap jumps and the big teams will become haves able to make up for the taxes.
But if not they won’t have to.
It's possible, lets hope it doesn't come to that. Personally i like the competition what parity brings, im salivating at the thought of seeing all the many good teams we have now going at it this year, when the playoffs begin.

Where are all these Toronto offers coming out of

I am guessing Rantanen kept stringing things along until the last minute, which tied the Canes' hands. He at least did a solid by agreeing to an extension in advance, which greatly increased his value to the Canes versus a rental sale. Tulsky did great to bring in the assets he did. I think Rantanen probably would have worked out given time, but he clearly didn't seem to like being traded anywhere and it showed in his play. No chemistry seemed to develop in the limited time he was with the Canes. While the Canes have a lot of Finns, so does Dallas. Dallas better hope he meshes with their players, coach and system though. Necas was sour over his usage in the past and while he is obviously a great player, a change of scenery was needed for him and the team.

I'm still a bit disappointed that Colorado didn't re-sign Rantanen after everything he did for the franchise. I think it's ages since a home-grown superstar player was last traded against his will in the league and a $96M deal always seemed the most logical for Rantanen. Somehow Avs front office just didn't value him that high as sources indicate that their last concrete offer was $11.25M and max limit for a new deal closer to $11.5M than $12M. Undoubtedly the negotiations were tough, but ultimately they would have probably ended with the same deal if they had wanted to.

With that being said, I'm surprised how well this turned out for all parties concerned. I believe Dallas is a great fit for Rantanen. Carolina ultimately got a young potential star player and great picks for a player they had wanted to offload for years. And Colorado got a great player and finally addressed their depth issues properly this deadline after wasting a few years riding MacK and Rants playing half of each game. So all is well at least until they have to re-sign Necas in Denver. If I remember correctly, his camp is no easier than Rantanen's when it comes to negotiations, and there are no guarantees that he's willing to give similar discounts as Rantanen was.

After thinking about this, I feel like, the Dallas Stars payed too much.

Does anyone have the same opinion as me?

It’s gonna be really interesting, because I kinda called him sucking in Carolina. Now we assume he’ll swim in Dallas, because holy shit look at that offense, but what if it’s just Mak? Or a bond forged over years of hockey, impossible to achieve in 20-40 games or whatever?

I’m more skeptical of the move than most. If they make the finals, worth it. If Rants fits that offense and scores 90+ per year, worth it. But I have doubts. It’s no longer Huberdeau 2.0, but rather Huberdeau 1.5 or somethin, he’ll get some basic numbers in Dallas at least.

Oh, and all things considered I think Carolina rescued themselves very well. Stankoven is a good young player, you keep the perpetual playoff machine in motion, it’s fine man, you weren’t swinging with these monsters this year anyways.

I think Rantanen will do good in Dallas, they have very good players, so he does not have to be the go to guy and he may fit the Dallas Stars better because Dallas just seems like a smarter organization and they can fit Rantanen better.

That is true but I feel the prospect that Stars sent l, is going to be better.

Could be. Could be.

Stank is a damn fine player and may well make this a solid deal for Carolina in the long-run. This is still a gigantic ooph to Carolina in the short-term, especially a year removed from failing to re-sign Guentzel.

As smart as I think Carolina's management is...ownership is going to drive away as many players as they can attract with this mindset and it burned them this time, as it was inevitably going to do eventually. Learning when to just not say something to the media is something Dundon needs to learn.

Given the circumstances I don't think Carolina did all that poorly here...it's just that they effectively punted a season while in the midst of their window because of their inability to sign Rantanen. The way Dundon talks wouldn't make me eager to re-sign either. These players are just commodities to be bought and sold...I feel like there shouldn't be any level of surprise when such a mindset results in players saying nope, even if it's the harsh truth.

Every owner realistically views their players that way, most are just usually smart enough to speak in bullshit code rather than gloat to the media like they've cracked the code.

This was a tough situation for Carolina and this return is hugely preferable to losing Rantanen the way they lost Guentzel...but it feels firmly avoidable if Carolina had a less cutthroat owner. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Owners who write off the human factor are bound to accumulate failures.
