Regardless the return, someone in Carolina should be fired for this Rantanen fiasco.
At least wait until we see the return. If it’s fine, it’s not a big deal. It’s not their fault they couldn’t get a deal done with a player who didn’t want to be there. They traded one lesser value (at the time) player they couldn’t sign for another basically.

Rantanen makes for an excellent Benn replacement. And no way the Stars trade Johnston; it'll end up being something like Stanky+1st+Bourque

He would have won either way....

100 mill from Carolina
or
UFA, every team in the leauge who can making a pitch and big money
or
Dallas and big money and tax bonus....

Yep. They gave up Necas, Drury and the picks for what, 10 Games of Rantanen?. Then they have to gave him away for, rumored Stankoven, 1st and Marchment (?)

Carolina, you and Sota Popinski can call it whatever you want, and i respect your opinion, but this trade-tree doesnt look pretty for them right now.

This is the 2nd year in a row a big UFA they traded for doesnt want to sign with them. They have a very good team, cap space, so whats the deal here?....

It's not my opinion that they also received Rantanen in the trade with Colorado. You have to include it with the assets on both sides.

But yes, it was an ill-advised move to trade for him without an extension in place. That was obvious right away. Maybe the owner really is that unpopular with players and agents because I can't think of another reason. I'm sure Carolina is a nice place to live.

That’s not why he’s leaving

It’s about fit and looking at window during that contract

Dallas has all Heiskanen, Harley, Oettinger, Hintz, Robertson either in their early prime or mid prime and Johnston hasn’t even started his

Carolina plays a ”boring” style and have multiple major holes in their lineup. No 2C, Burns cooked, Orlov cooked. Staal at the end of his career.

If he was willing to go to UFA market after the trade and lose 1 year in term it clearly shows you it’s about fit, where to begin to raise family and not about the most amount of money
He’s signing in Dallas because his take home pay will be about 12 % higher which will end up being more than 10 million dollars.

It’s entirely about the money and you’re being delusional imo to deny it. Weave whatever narrative you want.

That was just said by many that his underlying numbers were bad.

& with watching Rantanen in Carolina he’s been a scoring chance machine there, Carolina just has been slumping the last few weeks and he has pretty little to show for it

Of course in Colorado there was 10 years of chemistry of everyone knowing where to go and what passes to expect

Also in the beginning I believe like in Doncic trade with LA his heart was a bit broken by the trade, by everything it sounded like he expected to stay and spend his whole career in Colorado and didn’t want to get traded& was given no warning

But I absolutely agree that those excuses work for awhile and all the adv stats are nice but it’s time to get back on the scoring board and be a consisten 90-100 point threat
Re; "given no warning"; considering the Aho interview it's clear Rantanen's "completely blindsided"-comment was just lip-service.
He knew a trade was a possibility. Probably hoped a re-signing would happen, but still must have been informed either by his agent or read between the lines in a meeting with CMac that a trade could happen.

What?

It’s literally the same thing. The OP isn’t actually wrong in amalgamating the trades.

It’s not the same thing and it is wrong, lol.

If the reports are to be believed (still a lot going on), the final net-net is Necas, Drury, 2nd, 3rd, 4th OUT, Taylor Hall, Logan Stankoven, Maverick Bourque, +++ (whatever that ends up being) IN, for Carolina. If you view it like that, and remove the drama of it all, it looks like a lot less of a catastrophe than many here are implying. Putting Rantanen in the OUT column there makes no sense unless you put him in the IN as well.

We all know why, This is ruining it , like Rangers did before salary cap
Winning team and culture + anonymity matters a lot more than your "low tax"-shtick.
Florida and Tampa definitely weren't a go-to place when their teams/owners sucked.

Or:

They traded Necas for a 1st, Stankoven, possibly other Dallas pieces and the opportunity to sign Rantanen before any other team.
Necas, Drury, 2nd and a 4th...
Could still end up being a pretty good deal for Carolina. Stankoven is no slouch.

Dallas could actually run a Finn firstline here:

Granlund - Hintz - Rantanen
Robertson - Duchene - Jihnston
Benn - Seguin - Dadonov

Thats a filthy Top9 when their 3rd line is better than many 2nd lines...

Let's say the Canes make this Rantanen trade, get Stankoven and Bourque out of it, and pivot the deadline to Marchand. Is this forward group still a Cup Contender? I think it is.

Marchand-Aho-Stankoven
Hall-Kotkaniemi-Svechnikov
Martinook-Staal-Jarvis
Robinson-Bourque-Blake
Switch Jarvhs and Stankoven

Yeah because in Carolina and Colorado do spot Rantanen everywhere he goes . Let's be honest now

Carolina about to end up with a late first and 2 bottom 6 player for giving away Necas and Rantanen in less than 3 months.

Lmao

Stankoven isn't a bottom 6 player, though. He's a 22 year old rookie, who's at 0.5 PPG at the moment. Necas was about the same in his 22-23 year old season. Rantanen in his rookie season had 38 points in 75 games. Yeah, he was 1 year younger, but a rookie season is a rookie season, and Rantanen was 6'4 not 5'8...
