D Robert Hagg (2013, 41st, PHI)

With MacDonald out 4-6 weeks, Hagg is now being moved up to play with Ivan Provorov on the Flyers 1st D pair. Provorov finally has a competent partner. Hagg's development curve was a rollercoaster but he looks very good so far in his rookie season.

Well both good and bad for Hägge, he looked good with Ghost, wounder if Morin will get the chance with Ghost... think they would work well aswell

He is a stay at home rookie who played every single game. 4th in ice time on surprising Philly team 16th in the league goals allowed without spectacular goaltending. Goalies make highlight saves but allow too many easier ones. Hagg will be a fine bottom pair d for a long time imo.

Phila does way better now that 2 best pmd Provorov and Ghost are playing together. Not sure how that makes him sheltered. He is not a pmd thats for sure.

He hasn't been hurt too badly yet. His +/- is an outrageously nonindicative of his on ice contributions

Defensemen need to have puck moving ability in this NHL. Both he and MacDonald get absolutely eaten alive in possession play.

Flyers fans are an honest bunch. To summarize, Hagg is a bottom pair Dman that needs to be sheltered and paired with an excellent puck mover. He can play on the PK when Robot-Provorov takes his 20 second rest.

Flyers fans dislike him because our coach does not treat him like other rookies who get to sit in press box after a game with few mistakes, plays role too big for him and is playing ahead of better rookies than he is.

Edit. So all in all the problem is our idiotic coach.

Not true at all!

Manning, Lehtera, Weise and often Filppula get beat on as well.

I can generally live with Hagg's growing pains. It's the hypocrisy of seeing other young players get benched by the coach for the same (or lesser) mistakes that is maddening. I don't put the blame on Hagg.

Hagg is the least whipped of our whipping boys. AMac, Manning, Filppula, Weise and Lehtera all get more shit.

We don't love him because he is blocking other defensive prospects that are just as good currently and also have more upside. The problem with Hagg is he is AMac v2. He has minimal puck skills and somehow Hakstol thinks he has poise in the defensive zone when in actuality it is just indecision masked as poise. You wouldn't see much complaining about Hagg if he was getting ~15 minutes a night and both Manning and MacDonald were replaced by Morin and Sanheim.

Tbh thats not a good Dmen. average sure but not good.
