He had an awesome season in the AHL. If he was struggling, I would understand but he hasn't. He's ready to take the next level I believe. 41 pts in 61 games. Good for 3rd among AHL D-man. Ahead of him are a 35 years old dude and a 26 years old matured player.
What more do you want him to achieve before giving him a chance with the big club?

Mailman has a good chance of leading all the AHL defenseman with most points.

As much as I want to see him in the NHL, I don't mind if he stays down and leads the AHL scoring for defenseman.

That should shut up his detractors.

What more do you want him to achieve before giving him a chance with the big club?

His defensive zone play still needs some work but I agree with you I think he will see some games next year 100%. Start him in Laval and call him up by November/December. Let him work on those warts in a good environment with MTL against NHLers - I am totally fine with that.

I also believe that Habs would rather him and all their prospects be with the big club vs Laval as long as they're playing well in Laval first. Roy, Mailloux, soon to be Reinbacher, etc. Slaf never played in the A but they still wanted him with the big club right off the bat..... they seem to take a lot of pride in their development team and culture they've built so far with MSL & co.

I'm not so quick to make such assertions. To quote the great philosopher Kent Hughes: The young defensemen all had 'underwhelming' training camps. Of all the dmen prospects I would go as far as to say that Trudeau was the most impressive. Mailloux, Engstrom, both earned their way to Laval. And if Barron and Xhekaj don't smarten up, they'll be joining them.

Struble's return from injury should make things interesting. In fact, Struble was the only young D who took advantage of his opportunity. He had a solid camp.

I'm not throwing in the towel regarding the young Dmen that disappointed. They are still young and developing. I believe that the Habs could potentially have one heck of a d-core.

It's more convinient to send Mailman to the AHL then lose Barron.

The other stunning thing was the unquestionably brilliant MSL with 0-30 PP that didn't let the 3rd highest offensive defenseman in the AHL run the preseason PP.

Did i mention unquestionably brillant MSL with one of the worse PP in the last few years?

Then after a while, after getting jerked around, players get fustrated and want out or stop driving themselves and developing...but it's THEIR fault.

Perhaps but this also assumes alot of development and best case scenarios and there are 31 other teams in the league and a team like the Ducks , Jackets and Sabers have great groups as well.

If the PP is struggling why would you try and use a player the is getting sent down to try and turn it around? I really like mailloux, but he had a bad camp and didn't deserve to make the team based on it. He didn't earn the opportunity to try and fix the PP (especially over hutson and Matheson coming off a 60+ point season).

Montreal also didn't bring back out PP coach from the last few seasons (burrows), and have started the season with a PP goal in each of the first 3 games. Why are you acting like the sky is falling?

Because i think that long term Mailloux is going to be our best all around defenseman and i don't want to lose him or stunt his development.

As for his camp, it wasn't a "bad" camp. It was an overthought camp where he hesitated because he didn't want to make mistakes. That's more on the coaches not making him comfortable to play his game.

He also didn't play with a high quality defenseman like Guhle who could support his offensive game. I love X as his partner but in reality, X is no Guhle.

As for the power play, there is a pile of "wrong think" to put it nicely. If it didn't work with the donkeys sent out then try using a different tactic and players. Saying that it didn't work so why try something else is umm...less then smart.
