So far he has looked very impressive this year. Borderline dominant skater and puck handler. #1 guy on the PP. D is getting better, and has nice size. Still prone to gaffes, but that's what you get with guys who handle the puck a lot. I'm getting Skjei vibes with him. Hopefully he is able to learn enough to be a decent NHL defender. If he does, then he might be a very good top 4 guy for a long time.

Thank you for the insight.
He has not put up much points so far this year, but this is a small sample size, I'm glad to hear he's playing great.

He only recently switched to D. Similar like Gardiner and Manson before their drafts. Both Ducks draft picks that turned out really well.
And anyway, I am always ok with the defensemen picks the Ducks make

Because of his late transition, I think the plan was always to let him grow into that defensive role with time. If he is making progress, he is in a good trajectory.

thanks for the update, these toolsy prospects always intrigue me even more so when they are coming out of high school, lower jr leagues, and european leagues without much visibility

Thanks for the insight. Very exciting to hear as a Ducks fan.

Yeah I have seen a few of the Gophers games on BTN. He has jumped out, impressive talent. I liked him in his draft year a lot, but he is progressing nicely. I think his gap control is getting a lot better to add to the other things you listed. Ducks fans should be excited, there is a lot to work with here in my opinion.

Thank you guys for your feedback. I was fairly high on him since we drafted him last year, but I had not seen much of him. So all these validations from other fans make me very happy (that you do that, and to hear how LaCombe is doing).

But one thing pretty much all Ducks fans will admit – when we draft a defenseman, we all get excited

Has all the tools, but it's an open question whether or not he will ever develop the judgement to be even an average NHL'er defensively. The offense is already there.

Horrible comparison.
Not really. Lacombe is much stronger so he's able to handle the physical play better, but he isn't a physical player at all. Reilly has much better hockey sense. Lacombe has every skill you could ask for in a defenseman, but he's one of the dumbest players that I have watched at the U.

A lot of that is probably because he has made the change to the defenseman position very late for an NHL prospect, so he's still much more raw than the average high pick.

He's seemed to have made some major strides in his sophomore year and anaheim has no problem taking him slow. Reminds me of montour quite a bit.

I can’t speak to his brain, but the kid is a natural athlete. Runs in the family apparently. I think he is going to find a way to play in the show.
