D David Reinbacher - EHC Kloten, NL (2023, 5th, MTL)

His AHL production is very similar to Nemec last year.
He has been very good. Shoo-in to make the team next season unless something goes wrong. Biggest question mark for me is his durability.

His production has always been good at pro level. Ever since 21/22 it's always been pretty close to 0.50 except for last season when he played mostly hurt on a very poor Kloten team...but even last season he still scored 5 in 11 for Laval after crossing the pond. He may not be the most flashy defenseman but he's proven to be very efficient in transition, consistently creating offense from the back end...for years. He's very mobile for a big man, has soft hands and sensational vision. He's gonna be a beast, especially at even strength.

Good player but probably bit of a letdown given where he was picked if that’s the result . Seems like a decent comp though

I think you're overrating the players drafted at 5. Except for Jagr, Price, and obviously Demidov no real elite stars. Second tier you've got Scott Stevens and maybe Lindholm and Sanderson. Ohlund would be the second best dman drafted 5th after Stevens if he were drafted there.

I like how you used the term “obviously” on Demidov a player who hasn’t played a second in the NHL, but not one of the best players of all time in Jagr.

Top tier bait. If Demidov turns out to have the same level of NHL impact as Sanderson you should be overjoyed. Insane to include him along Jagr and Price, yeesh.

Things I've learned from Habs fans in recent weeks:

Lane Hutson = Bobby Orr
Ivan Demidov = Jaromir Jagr

Pretty big expectations for the Habs now. Gotta think they need to win at least 2-3 cups by 2030.

Going back from 2020, #5 picks
Sanderson
Alex turcotte
Barrett hayton
Petterson
Juolevi
Hanifin
Dal colle
E lindholm
Reilly
R strome
Nino

Id say that a player like ohlund would be sl
above the median quality of player, similar to hanifin/reilly/lindholm below sanderson and petterson before he sucked.

Basically 5/10 drafts you’re going to get a worse player than him at 5

Let’s pump the breaks. Matthews came quite literally after McDavid, Makar the year after.
Makar's a dman apples and oranges. Matthews is a marginal 1C with a couple hot streaks. at least 3 dmen outscoring him this year. Outside top 30 in scoring. Every team in league has a guy almost at that level.

You’re ignoring lane hutson?

Habs fans have some insane takes and I say that as a life long Habs fan, but this may be the worst I’ve seen in a while

Nobody said that but enjoy the worst prospect pool in the league
