This 6'3 defenseman just had an excellent U18 5 nations tournament for Finland as he had 6 assists in 4 games. He has also 1 goal and 8 assists in 18 A-juniors games. Even though that probably isn't that impressive, his strenght is his hockey sense as he does good decisions on the ice.

He probably won't be a high round pick, but he'll be interesting to follow this season. I think he'll get drafted.

Had another great U18 tournament based on some of the reports and watching some of the games.

vs Slovakia 0+2 (11-0 w)
vs Switzerland 0+2 (6-3 w)
vs Czech Republic 0+0 (4-3 w)
vs Germany 0+1 (3-2 w)

Tuomisto was a real standout against Germany with his smooth skating and great vision.

I think he could be huge riser. Right handed defenseman that can move the puck are always needed, his size doesn't hurt either. Could be a 2nd rounder if he continues his play in the U18 WC.

Lots of room to grow with that 191cm frame.

Any idea where he projects to go in the draft? Interested to hear more on him if anyone has anything to add.

So he has not played in Liiga yet because he want's to keep his egilibity to play in the NCAA. He has been good enough. That will keep him quite underrated. 7+23 in 39 games as a defenceman.

I said just in case you don't click that link from @JoukoPouko. Good stuff so I recommend clicking it!

The local paper Satakunnan Kansa confirmed that Antti Tuomisto will play next season with the Ässät U20 team. Will go to the NCAA in the 2020-21 season.

Those skating issues though

I hope every Finnish player will reach success but i´m not sure about this kid. He was not good at U18. Sluggish skating och very meh. Red Wings made a stupid first pick as well.

So a little update: He's dominating the U20 level in Finland with another 2 point game today and obviously needs to be playing at a higher level, but can't because he wants to go the college route. According to Elite Prospects he's expected to be joining Waterloo in the USHL this season.

It doesn't have to be necessarily that bad for his development. I think it might give him more practice with having a bigger playmaking role and also help him get a lot of confidence in his puck handling skills. Next season would be already bad in a lower quality league, but I think at his age it can be quite ok, with the things that I mentioned being after all even pretty good for him.

The Eliteprospects thing is confusing...I can't find anything anywhere indicating he's coming to Waterloo.

It hasnt been said anywhere that hes going to waterloo, I think its just that they own his rights. Hes playing in Europe than coming to college. I dont mind him staying and dominanting offensively for a year because it seems like the offense is the main thing he has to work on anyways. Not playing at the highest level possible can also be a way to focus on developing areas without sacrificing wins/losses for your team

True but he already showed pretty good offensive abilities last season in Jr.A . I think though USHL is not a step above Jr.A in terms of level. Only reason for him going there would be to get used to NA hockey . He can easily get a ton of icetime in Jr. A or play Mestis/Liiga level but seems he is one of those top talents who just wants to go the College route.

I remember a lot of people HATED this pick, saying he was a 3rd/4th rounder picked too early. Right now Antti leads the Jr. SM-liiga in shots and average time on the ice. If he scores 13 points in the next 7 games he will break the league's all time scoring record for defenders.

Let's go Antti!

Playing in a Finnish junior league isn't going to do much to change opinions, no matter how good he is doing in said league
