GDT: Czechs vs Sweden, semi final, 9am EST

Hamara has been so good, such a calming presence on the ice for the Czechs. Fantastic ability to escape forecheck. Also, I feel bad for Hrabal, but he seems to be very strong mentally so I expect a stellar 3rd period from him (let's hope xD).

McKenzie takeaways... Hrabal can't catch and Hugo can't cover the ice.lol

I think it's all nerves.
No. They are both average to mediocre goaltenders. USA has by far the best goaltenders left in the tournament.

The high sticking penalty on Sweden. It should still have been a penalty on the goaltender. His stick should not have been there.

Great replay there on viaplay, showing how Hrabal completely bought the fake on Pellikka’s goal. Still such a good goalie prospect though.

Hrabal was the second goalie taken in the draft and plays in the NCAA... Only two 18 year olds doing that. Him and Augustine. He will actually be back next year for us and i welcome his mediocre ass with open arms in ottawa.lol.

Nick Lidstrom was in the swedish studio and the way he was talking (no surprise I guess) that ASP will have to do some time in Grand Rapids before making it with the Red Wings.

Evenly played game. Czechs have really held their own the last few years. Are they being undervalued in the NHL Draft?

Teams haven’t figured out how to accurately weight scoring in the Czech league. When Kulich was drafted a lot of the talk was a perceived lack of production as a 17 year in a pro league. It’s why he made it to 28. Flash forward one year he led his AHL team in goals at 18…even though he left for weeks to play in WJC. Flash forward to now and he led the entire AHL in goals at the time he left for WJC.

I never understood it. He looked like a sure fire pro with a plus shot to me. I was pounding the table for him at 16 that draft.

I get that but I think you should aim higher this year, this team with a break or two could go all the way.
I said pre tourney that we had no flaws. This doesn't mean I think we are perfect but it means that we have one elite forward here, a very strong and consistent D and a supposedly highly ranked goalie.lol.

Against thiug... Not saying the best at anything. But no glaring weakness.

In the last twenty years... We typically had a high skill winger or two.. 7d that will never come close to the NHL and a good goalie.

Now we have d that are doing well and have NHL chances.

I keep saying ... This is the weak squad of the three. Last year's squad was an all timer for us and next year's squad is looking stacked.

My impression is that the Swedish players have a tendency to end up on the wrong side of their opponents a bit too often. A bit too much puck watching.

Shame redlich didn't bury that... They let him walk right in... I think he was thrown off by it.

I was fine with the call... Preferably no penalty calls.tbh. Let them gut it out
I think he was far enough away form the boards that he there was no chance of a serious injury.
I prefer legitimate penalties to be called. If not what happens is a ridiculous over the glass shot happens and they have to call it after ignoring trips and tackles. The problem is the officials have shown no ability to recognize legitimate penalties.
And of course a BS penalty is called.
