The Czechs brought back memories of the 2000ish Czech teams that really knew how to manage a game. That game probably goes the other way 9 times out of 10, but that's why they play.

In terms of actual scoring chances I think this one was very close. I don't think it goes in the US favor that often.

On the talent of the teams, sure you expect the Americans to win, if that's what you meant.

What is expected to be a strength of an American WJC was a glaring weakness. Almost every team is missing key players. One of our no-shows happened to (not) be in net.

Head coach. Playing an obviously injured player is bad enough, but never switching up the lines when the US had nothing going is negligent.

In classic Czech fashion they would have started backing up all 5 men immediately after scoring goal two early in the second period. They stayed aggressive here until the penalties started in the third period.

Cooley's performance this entire tourney belies his draft pedigree. Not saying he won't live up to it, but he sure didn't here.

They sat back pretty much right after the third goal. The golden era Czechs probably wouldn't have taken that five minute major but otherwise it was the same playbook.

I don't think we should judge players playing in their draft year tournament so harshly. Same goes for Jiricek and ... Kulich. Who else is even from this draft?
