Are there always this many 5 minute majors in the World Juniors? This is my first time watching a full tournament, genuinely curious

they are trying to make the tournements with younger players more safe and they believe if they give out majors it will cut down on dangerous plays.

They’ll always air on siding with protecting the young players at the U-20 and U-18 level. As it should be.

This has seemed like more though at this years WJC, the IIHF has always called more than the NHL or NA refs.

They don’t really do “game management” like what we see in the NHL. If it’s a penalty, they’ll generally call it.
