Where are people at on this game? After years of updates and enhancements, is it worth picking up for PS5?
Beat it on PC shortly after it came out. Played a little since then but.. essentially just waiting for dlc... So I'll probably pick it back up sometime next year.

Its good on PC, and the ray tracing is actually incredibly good in certain scenes but sadly its only turned on in certain situations, just play it in the 60fps mode.

I played it primarily on PC though, I liked it a lot.

Is it a free upgrade from the PS4 version?
It is but just be aware if you have the demo or the ps plus trial version installed on your console you need to delete them before it will let you upgrade. It doesn't tell you so it can cause a headache.

Hmm this is good to know. Seems like a strange issue to come across, one that would be an easy fix.

I got it for sale plus had an EGS store credit so got it for 20 bucks. Played it on a base Razer Blade laptop and the game was in a really good state, I just haven't set the time aside to play through the game again when I still hadn't finished on the the PS4.

I'm playing it on PS5 and it runs pretty well. I think it looks excellent and it's the first game I've played that makes good use of the Dualsense rumble and haptic feedbacks. Using power revolvers feels like using the old school Time Crisis arcade controllers where the slide would snap back with every shot.

The Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time though and this definitely lacks the narrative strength and soul of that game. It feels like they put together a great base for the game and then ran out of time to add all the other flourishes to really give it character and soul. The main thing that is jarring as someone expecting sci-fi The Withcer 3 is how limited the dialog options are. There really is just one meaningful "tree" in almost all the conversations and tasks. There will occasionally be other conversation options and options supposedly tied to your character's build but even those lead absolutely nowhere. For example, if you're a nomad with mechanic skills you'll have an option to comment on a character's motorcycle but the conversation really boils down to you just saying "hey, that's a nice bike" and the other character saying "thanks bro".

This may just be me but it also feels unnecessarily morbid. Every quest seems to end negatively or with a good character dying or going through something horrible and there's no levity or humor to balance it out like in The Witcher 3. It doesn't help that your player character has basically no personality at all and is more akin to blake slate John Shephard from the ME series but without the ability to make choices that define him.

I feel like witcher 3 had a ton of quests like that. The bloody baron sticking out.

I think V is supposed to be the blank slate with Johnny being more the geralt archetype.

Sure, but there was also a good amount of humor to balance it out. Having the option to unexpectedly make Geralt break Sigi Dijkstra's leg (again) is one of the funniest moments I've ever seen in a video game. I'm not too far into this one but it just feels like a constant stream of misery so far. I just started doing quests with Panam.

Started playing this game again recently and I’m enjoying it now. The first time I played right after release I didn’t make it out of act 1. All the bugs were annoying and I just didn’t seem to get into the game/story. I just couldn’t get myself to invest enough time to learn the game.

But now that I’ve given it a chance and learned how to do all the quick hacking and stuff it’s a lot more fun. Once you get into act 2 the game gets a lot better as well. Act 1 was kind of linear even though they did eventually put you into the open world. The game opens up a lot more in act 2 though.

I just got it again as well after stopping soon after release. I’m really enjoying it, the world is beautiful. So far my only gripe is that the controls seem a bit stiff when moving.

It's much improved imo. I stopped playing and recently got back into and the performance is a lot more stable. The graphics look insane on PC with ray tracing at psycho.

Speaking of insane graphics on PC, they're about to get even better in a new update that also includes DLSS 3.0.

  • NVIDIA RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI) gives each neon sign, street lamp, car headlight, LED billboard and TV accurate ray-traced lighting and shadows, bathing objects, walls, passing cars and pedestrians in accurate colored lighting
  • Ray-traced indirect lighting and reflections now bounce multiple times, compared to the previous solution’s single bounce. The result is even more accurate, realistic and immersive global illumination, reflections, and self-reflections
  • Ray-traced reflections are now rendered at full resolution, further improving their quality
  • Improved, more physically-based lighting removes the need for any other occlusion techniques

Isn't DLSS 3.0 4xxx series only?

Those cards don't exist as far as I'm concerned

Technically, DLSS 3.0 is for all RTX series, but you currently need the 4000 series to get the new frame generation feature that provides the extra performance gains. 2000 and 3000 series owners using DLSS 3.0 will just get performance on par with what they got from 2.x, though perhaps with slight improvements going forward as 3.x is improved irrespective of frame generation. An Nvidia employee has gone on record as saying that it's theoretically possible, with more research and development, to extend the frame generation feature to the older series, but the gains wouldn't be as good. It's probably in Nvidia's interest to start on that, though, because this belief that DLSS 3.x is only for the 4000 series isn't good for the DLSS brand and AMD will probably eventually add frame generation to FSR that works on the 2000 and 3000 series. My guess is that Nvidia will secretly do the work and wait until AMD does add it to FSR to release it.

Totally agree.

RTX 20 took my enthusiast card away.

Now I tell myself I'm a performance per watt enthusiast

EDIT: Whoops, though this was the PC thread. To tie it back to Cyberpunk, maybe I can experience the next gen stuff if they come out with a GeForce Now 4080

I played it when it first came out on my ps5 ~2years ago. There were definitely some glitches but nothing that really prevented me from playing.

My biggest complaint by far is the first person view. I simply hated it and could never get used to it.

I tried re-installing it and playing it again lately and was really excited to give it another go on the PS5 version and try the story again and i wasnt even thinking of the first person view....and as soon as I started within 10 minutes I gave up because of it.

I don't understand why they wouldn't make this in the 3rd person. I get the reasoning behind first person being an option, but from a marketing standpoint they had to know a lot of people wouldn't like that - why wouldn't they do both?

I know there are mods - mostly on pc - that change this.

Any reports of them making an actual legitimate 3rd person option though? And if not - is such a mod possible on ps5 and any good?

Do you get motion sickness from first person games or something?

They rushed out the game unto the market so they has to cut corners. Not having to animate a character in 3rd person and using 1st person instead happened because of that.

No nothing like that - its just almost every game I ever played (and maybe, literally every game I ever played) has 3rd person view. Its just what I'm used to. I actually beat Cyberpunk 2 years ago, so i played for hours and hours and still hated the view by the end.

So just personal preference, but I absolutely can't stand the first person view. Makes such a huge negative difference for me.
