I'm actually sincerely sorry to read this. As much as I found him annoying and smug, I wouldn't wish unemployment on someone. It just sucks to go through.

The one line I wonder about: "the council discussed the secret monitoring of social media backlash to the arena proposal." Why is it a secret for government officials to monitor social media? Shouldn't they know what constituents are thinking (obviously social media isn't always indicative of overall public sentiment but still they are a portion of the public)

The issue was that were abusing executive privilege laws in the state to do it. They could have monitored the social media from a true neutral and transparent manner that would have been open to records requests and there wouldn't be any issue.

It's because the council had a clear conflict of interest and tried to do it in secret they got their hand slapped by the state and have to release this amazing display of Dunning-Kruger 😂

Ok so I didn't realy the report, but if they are just reading public postings whats the rule violation?

The sheer fact that I, living in Edmonton, know who Craig Morgan is and would read his material on the Coyotes indicates his worth as a reporter. Sorry to hear this happened to him.

Private Executive sessions can only be called by municipalities if there's an actual legal need for privacy. Receiving and reviewing the reports from strategy 48 did not rise to that needed level.

The only reason this came out was because the secretary of the meeting that day was an alternate and recorded the executive session to help her record minutes, but the recording had to be retained because other laws. So who knows what heinous stuff they said the other times they secretly met with Strategy 48 lol.
