So, wondering about the following three guys and where you think you're going to end up on the list below:

Player / Goals / Assists / Points / Age / Time Left on Contract

Chris Kreider 281 / 222 / 503 32 3.5 Years
Mika Zibanejad 215 / 268 / 483 30 5.5 Years
Artemi Panarin 117 / 267 / 384 32 2.5 Years
Adam Fox 39 / 217 / 256 25 5.5 Years

Me?
Kreider another 38 points this year, 55 average per year after, = 203 = 706 (5th All Time)
Mika another 48 points this year, 70 points per year average after = 398 = 881 (3rd All time)
Panarin another 55 points this year, 90 points per year after = 235 = 619 (6th All Time)
Fox another 45 points this year, 75 points per year after = 420 = 676 (6th All Time at age 30ish)

And how does all this play into having their jerseys in the rafters? Do they need a cup?

If Kreider is 2nd or third (Mika) all time in goals is he an automatic?

If this team wins the Cup are they all automatic?

Thoughts?

I think whether he gets retired or not, no one is wearing #20 for a long time after Chris hangs them up. Kreider is automatic jersey retirement if he gets a ring.

I think Kreider easily ends up 2nd all-time in goals.

I don't think Panarin will be here long enough to end up with any franchise honors. Mika, I can be convinced and he's basically tied at the hip with Kreider, with the edge to Kreider. Fox will be up there but I don't see him getting a jersey retirement without a ring or two.

Side note: I kinda wish the Rangers did a Ring of Honor thing for the "Not Legends, but like...important historical figures of the franchise"

The crazy thing for Kreider is that if he ages on a similar curve to Pavelski, he not only grabs the franchise record for goals but also pushes 500.

I don’t think he will, but it’s far from impossible. He’s had the strangest development curve.

Kreider's jersey retirement is pretty much guaranteed if he plays out his contract in New York, cup or not.

Zibanejad might, but Panarin would need a cup for sure. His tenure won't be long enough to be up there, unless he signs a 6-7 year extension.

The lack of Bill Cook and others from that era is a shame.

I think there needs to be a History of Hockey subforum level of a vote of our all time greats by anyone here who is an expert.

Edit - I didn’t realize that list was sorted by points. But still, we should do this.

20 should be a lock. He's already a top 5 winger in franchise history.

It's wild that Mika already has almost 500 points as a Ranger and has a chance to move that far up the list. Doesn't seem like he's around that long.

If they win a cup 3-5 of the core of that team will get their numbers retired sooner or later depending on who’s here. The Cup just gives them license to go crazy with the celebrations and retirement nights.

Fox, Mika, Kreider, Bread and Igor. Maybe even Laf if his career pans out here, who knows.

Without the Cup the best chance is Kreider who may get there anyway. He’s a drafted freak and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still playing and scoring goals close to 40

Can’t speak for stats, but CK is the only player on the team whose jersey number I could see hanging from the rafters. We will have to see how Fox ages and how much of his career he plays with us (you never know).

7 years. And he has 7 more to go. So he could potentially reach 1,000

Hate to split hairs, but Mika has 6.5 years left on that deal.

52 games out of 82 left. I round up

Zibanejad's totals as a Ranger:

37
47
74
75
50
81
91

He currently has 28 in 30. He'll probably gets 55 more points, the way he's playing now after his slump. That outscores 3 of his seasons as a Ranger. So I consider the remainder of this season still a full season for the purpose of calculating his avg towards hitting 1k

I hope that makes sense

Kreider is a lock, and Mika has a great shot because he will be top 5 on a lot of lists by the time his career is over. Fox id still so young but I’d put his number retirement odds above 50% as long as he’s healthy. If they win the Cup all 4 will have their numbers retired.

Wasn't meant as a reply to you....I should've quoted the original post which stated he has 5.5 yrs left on the contract.

We did this a while back! @Crease probably has the data if you want to know what we thought about Ching Johnson and Edgar Laprade.

Oh! Gotcha.

Zibanejad has 483 points in 516 games.

For the remainder of his career, he's projected to play another 544 games. At his rate (which includes some low-scoring early seasons so I think it's a fair rate to use), he would add another 509 points, which gets him to 992 which would rank 2nd all-time in Rangers history and only 29 points behind Rod Gilbert.

I'm on team Kreider if he spends most of the rest of his career here. Lifer or near-lifer gets you a bonus in my book.

Zibanejad? Depends on how long he sticks around

If he plays out his contract, that's 14 full seasons. Only 6 skaters have completed more seasons as a Ranger.

That was a fun project. The tables were lost in one of the server migrations since, but I think some of the discussion threads are still around if you use the right search terms.

I have been thinking about the current crop of players lately. Kreider is probably at or surpassed Adam Graves at this point. When all is said and done, Zibanejad and Panarin will have spent most of their careers and their primes with the Rangers and they are probably the two most talented forwards the Rangers have had since Messier (Jagr and Gretzky's short stints aside). Fox is Fox, and will probably slot somewhere in the top-five defensemen in Rangers history. That's a lot of accolades for some players who get a ton of grief around here.

MSG used to be one of the hardest places to get a jersey retired for both hoops and hockey.

Most that were retired were in the HOF.

I think they lowered that bar when they announced Adam Graves (good guy) although they later added Bathgate to that honor.

Will CK? Maybe. Too soon for me to say. I have always wanted Gresh who was one of my favorite players ever but understood that he was not a HOF guy and did not win a cup.

I'd sooner see another Cup banner up there but unless some of the above mentioned guys force themselves into dirtier situations more often in the playoffs it likely won't happen with them as our leaders . All great soldiers....but not the kind that will be remembered for winning championships like Mess-Gravy-Leetch who were and are still talked about today in hockey circles . Graves would do anything to win.....Kreider and Mika.....not so much . That might sting for some of you guys but that is how I see it .

Graves and Hadfield felt like thinly veiled excuses to sell out a mid-season game. I think Richter should be the floor for jersey retirement.
