Post-Game Talk: Cup Cats @ Crap Cats 2/25/25 7PM Ive Got Nothing Edition

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
I know the team is dead inside right now but it would have been nice to see someone or someone’s take it personal to see our captain get crushed.

Im not sure Skjei-Blankenberg is a competent NHL pairing
The right side of our defense sucks top to bottom. Add Englund on the left.

Macy spent a lot of time explaining how the defense has been historically bad this season. And that's not just because of 2 or 3 injuries. We've actively put lesser and lesser talent in the lineup for whatever reason.

This is just a poorly coached and bad team. No sustained offense. A defense that literally did not exist at times. We're too slow to dump and chase. We're too slow to backcheck. Our passing is poor. Our structure is terrible. It looks like the Bruno system is basically every man for himself hot-potato.

No one is having fun. They look like guys with PTSD crawling out of a foxhole after being shelled for weeks.

The culture is going great.

PS: I barely even remember seeing Stamkos tonight. The one shift I recall, they turned it over and Florida took it back the other way hard. Stammer just shook and bowed his head and skated back towards Saros. Visibly frustrated. ROR was also frustrated, especially after he tipped a puck into Saros' net.

I'd actually put Stamkos as our most disappointing free agent acquisition of all time. Matthew Lombardi level.

You hate to see it from a generational talent but the dude is cooked at least in terms of being a play driver. Tampa was right not to sign him. I'm secretly hoping Tampa would take him back at 50% retained at the deadline for a haul but I'm not sure I see that happening now.

I'm hoping that last night's game is enough to get some of the vets to demand a trade.

I'm also hoping last night is enough to get the brass to wake up and realize they're in game experience needs to be better.

My guess with Josi's history is week to week, upper body (more damage to the grey stuff sloshing around his skull with his history).
Seems likely. I hate to say it, but if this is the case he really should do some thinking on his future. This isn't anything to play around with given his history.

If i recall last night (things got a little blurry after Florida got their first goal), Josi got sent head first (like top of the head) into the boards. Was extremely slow to get fully back onto his feet and then took a shift or two before never returning.

Given his injury history, they may of just been cautious. Also, his history of concussions doesnt leave me optimistic. If he is indeed concussed, shut him down for the rest of the season. Call up Gravel (please dont subject Stastney to this) or pick Dermott up off of waivers. The team is cooked for the season.

I remember when Josi signed his sweetheart 4Mx7year deal, he explicitly called out the risk of more concussions ending his career as the reason he valued such a long term over higher $. And that was several concussions ago...

I think I've seen estimates in the range of 9-11 prior concussions for Josi? It's definitely getting up there. The hit last night wasn't a super-egregious sort of case... like you don't look at it and go "OMG what a vicious play and thoroughly violent and pre-meditated disgusting attack"... but within the context of his past history, even relatively lesser events are potentially quite serious.

Assuming that's why he went out, anyway, I think you really want to err on the side of caution here. We're 30th in the league and only playing for a draft pick at this point in the season. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that he should have come out for ANY shifts after that play, and it would make a ton of sense to just shut him down for the rest of this season. I don't hold out a great deal of hope for our franchise competing at any point during the remainder of his contract, but if by chance Trotz does turn that around, having Josi onboard will be crucial. Protect that asset! (Along with his quality of life.)

With his minutes going to lord knows who on our D down the stretch, I apologize to our goalies for proposing that. But hey, they are already locked up on contracts, so it's not like getting shelled even more down the stretch is going to have a drastic effect on their future livelihoods. We really should just claim the Travis Dermotts of the world and ice the worst crew we can muster. Don't call up Gravel or Del Gaizo, that's Milwaukee's captain and their most active D atm. Just put some waiver wire plugs in there instead and ramp up the minutes to the rest of our skeleton crew. It won't be pretty. But let's face it, it was already not pretty even before Josi got hurt.

Silver lining... maybe it gives us even more Cap space to weaponize at the TDL by taking on Cap dumps? :dunno:
