A supposed golden era of American talent once again produces nothing when the lights are the brightest. Matthews/Eichel combine for 0 goals while Canada's McDavid/MacKinnon combine for 7.

I'm not so sure this is crow eating so much as it is par for the course for us when it comes to major (yes I'm calling the 4 Nations major) tournaments. :(

You need some new material, this is about the 8th time you gloated over this. Though it is a good point. It's pretty crazy to think there was that big of a differential while US beat Canada 3-1 then Canada won 3-2/OT. Asking Matthews to perform in Boston though is asking for a lot

Biggest crow eaters should be the people who whined that guys like Caufield, Keller, Bedard etc weren’t invited. “Bring the best players!”

This was a big boy’s tournament and they would’ve all been on the menu.

Proud of the U.S. effort. We’ve never been able to actually matchup with Canada until this week. Cant wait for the Olympics next year
Meh. Keller would have been a huge upgrade over Konecy and mark strone. Maybe even Marchand.

Shiefele would have been a huge upgrade over Jarvis.

Thompson would have been an upgrade on goaltending. Especially over hill.

Sanheim didn’t impress me either. Chychurn would have been better. But maybe because he was born in Florida they didn’t consider him. He has always represented Canada at the world tournaments though.

The only reason you get to say this is because Canada won. Keller and Sheifele were better options at centre and right wing. No question in my mind.

Keller is American...

Head to head

McDavid 2G 0A 2Pts
MacKinnon 1G 0A 1Pts

Vs

Matthews 0G 2A 2Pts
Eichel 0G 1A 1Pts

As a Canadian I’m happy Canada won, but head to head they were pretty evenly matched. I’d argue Matthews and Eichel looked better than McDavid and MacKinnon even though the Canadian duo had better tournaments as a whole.

I think we all owe an apology to Binnington. We are used to Roy, Brodeur, Price types in the tournament, but Binnington proved that he is elite when the team needs him the most. He was absolutely clutch in the championship game and we shouldn't have doubted him!!

Mitch Marner was very good at this tournament and should be a mainstay in the Olympics in Italy.

The book on Binnington was always he gives up shit goals but comes up massive under the biggest moments. That's the same thing about Adin Hill. It's gonna be the same thing next year in Italy but there's only a few teams in the world who can deal with Canada's fire power offensively anyway.

The obvious one is Binnington. He played the stretch of his life and one of the best sequences we've ever seen in hockey - period. That should have been game over multiple times, and even a prime Carey Price wouldn't have made all three of those stops.

The other notable one is Marner. For a guy who takes so much shit for being soft and a player that doesn't rise to the occasion, he steps up and delivers two perfect primary assists. They don't win this game without Marner's ability to know where the open man is at all times.

Mathews and eichel played great. Mathews is becoming under rated somehow. People seem to only notice stats not the endless defensive plays both these players made. Mathews two way game is grossly under rated it seems.

I mean he's probably a very poor mans Brodeur, he makes the saves you ask how the f*** did he do that and then gives up a shit goal and you're like WTF.

It's Stone, and you're just wrong about him, nm not even knowing Keller is American

I hope those that hate international hockey, saying they don't like it and that they only care for their players playing for the club they get paid by, are eating major crow today.

Besides the fact that the quality of hockey hammers anything a NHL game provides, there's something about pulling your country's jersey over you that brings out the best in you. These guys get paid by their clubs, but don't bring anything close to the same intensity as they do playing for their country for free.

I want more of this, and I cannot wait for the Olympics. Too bad the NHL botched up the continuity of the World Cup and going to the Olympics all these years, because we as fans have missed out on some incredible high calibre hockey as a result.

I'll eat crow on Binner for sure. I thought he was allowing 3-4 goals last night for sure.

Then I realized it's a do or die game on TD Garden ice and my confidence grew after the first period, lol.

Jack Hughes for me.

Great perimeter player, not a great player. Once all the big dogs got together he struggled, big time. Defensively, don't even get me started there. I'd say it was a joke but that doesn't quite make sense either because he didn't play any defense. Offensively he did manage to fall down 1-2 times every shift and lost nearly every 50/50. Pathetic and if I see him on the Olympic team I will puke.

I think what Marchand brought to this team was far more important than his play, which also wasn't bad. Kept that room super loose all tournament. Guy has experience at every level and you could tell how good he was in that room.

Binnington gave him a ton of credit in his interview post game as well.

After the first period I turned to some friends and said, "I don't know if I take Marner to the Olympics." i'm sorry Mitch you are a stud and finally delivered on a TD Garden memory.

As an Oiler fan that gets to watch every McDavid game, I agree that McDavid and MacKinnon looked bad. Very frustrating to watch. The problem is, other than Makar and maybe Doughty, most of their teammates have no clue how to play with these guys. You have to feed them in transition when they are garnering speed. So many times I was screaming at my TV when I see these guys winding up and instead of getting a pass, their teammate just shoots it in or passes back. So frustrating to watch compared to what I am use to. Hopefully next year, at least one of his teammates like Hyman can play with him. Same goes with Mac, At lease one forward that knows how to play with him.
