He needs better wingers in Pittsburgh. It's a shame he couldn't find chemistry with Kessel. On paper they seemed to be a natural fit. Maybe they'll try again.

Maybe he would be a good fit if they had another center and Kessel can be their Marchand? But not Malkin, he's too much of a puck hog.

In the entire season, the coaches only put Kessel with Crosby 7 or 8 times. In the one full game under Sullivan, the Kessel/Crosby combo had three goals. It was broken up the next game. Sullivan may not have liked it but I thought they looked great together.

Both better than a Steve Sullivan or Brian Gibbons or whoever.

Like. Crosby has always had mediocre wings. It just adds to his argument of why he's the greatest of all time.

You mean the argument that he's one of the greatest?

Because there is absolutely no argument whatsoever for him being the GOAT. Like, zero, and I would love nothing more than for an NS born player to have that title.

But, not even close.

He does have chemistry with Kessel though, anytime they were put together under Sullivan, they were lights out. Especially in 3 on 3 and 4 on 4, Crosby-Kessel was downright dominant there. If the Pens went with Hagelin-Crosby-Kessel, I have no doubt that Crosby would hit 110 points this year. The issue is Malkin/Bonino and Hornqvist don't work well together and Crosby and Hornqvist work extremely well together.

I also disagree with the narrative that Crosby and Kessel don't play well together.

IMO, they didn't perform because each player individually was playing poorly at the time.

Yah, I don't get it with people who say Sid and Kessel don't have chemistry. They looked dominant together when they were together with Sullivan. Hags, sid , Kessel would be the fastest and best line in the NHL

I actually agree with this. The only time the two of them played together for multiple games in a row was at the very start of the season, when Sid was absolutely horrible, the team couldn't score to save their lives, and Kessel was a mess.

They weren't given a chance to show what they could do once Sid found his game or once Sullivan actually got the team playing well. I believe the one game Sullivan did play them together, Kessel scored 2 goals.

Obviously a balanced attack ended up working out great for the Pens, so I'm not complaining with the end result of Sid and Kessel on different lines. But this narrative that they don't click is based entirely on a period of 7 games where Sid and the Pens were absolute crap.

Sid was fantastic tonight. I think it was easily his best international game ever. His hockey sense is unreal. He put on a clinic on how to read plays and effectively play hockey today.
