He's one of the few who's earned the right to call his shot. The Pens will do whatever he wants to do, rightfully so.

I guess there's a world where he's not going to accept how bad the team is around him and maybe go for one more run somewhere else. I really doubt it though. He has high standards but he seems like a one team guy.

No I think the same thing. I think their devotion to Sullivan is killing them more than anything. He's a good coach but I think he's at that Paul Maurice in Winnipeg stage of being way too long in the tooth.

Some shrewd offseason moves, a new coach, and a goalie that can stop a puck would all go a long way for Pittsburgh.

I honestly don't see the Penguins making the playoffs again while he remains there.

Their core is old and getting older and worse by the year, who knows when Sullivan will be canned and their depth is horrible (as is their prospect pool).

He can still play and would definitely be an asset to a contending team. But it's his decision. If he wants to be a career Penguin, you at least have to respect the loyalty. I'm not sure it's the best thing for him or the organization, however.

I'm sure he wants to retire with the Pens.

Him, Malkin and Letang all wanted to return with Sullivan as their coach.

Malkin will retire after next season but their core is aging out and they need to surround them with good young talent.

The man has nothing more to prove. He has zero reason to uproot himself just to go to the crapshoot that is the playoffs. Crosby is a Pen lifer and legend. This isn't a Borque situation.
I agree. Crosby isn't a mercenary. He doesn't want to end up like Kane, being a shell of his former self on another team. Or like other 1OV picks who bounce around from team to team. Pittsburgh took care of Crosby and he's going to return the favour and keep people in the seats as long as possible

How many times this needs to be discussed?

Crosby has zero reasons to move. He has won basically everything there is to win in hockey, and as a captain nevertheless. Olympics, Stanley Cups, World Championship. He loves Pittsburgh and wants to play only for one team like his idol Yzerman.

End of story.

If he's comfortable and still loves playing even if the team is losing, then that's all that matters.

In a way that's refreshing even. Usually guys are chasing something at the end or just call it quits if they can't be at the top.

If anyone caught it tonight, in his post game questions, one interviewer asked Sid how he is feeling about his current situation in Pittsburgh. And Sid replied "I'm comfortable where I'm at" and it seemed like he didn't want to discuss further. So do you think that no chance Sid gets another shot at a cup on a contender before he retires?
Your profile pic is fitting because seravelli just claimed that Crosby might still be the best player in the world just because of his game against Sweden ha

Crosby has won everything there is, I can’t imagine he has any desire to play anywhere but Pittsburgh.

Having the Olympics next year will give him something to play for

Yup. Already a top five all time player (imo) Even if he wanted to move to a contender the salary cap would prevent him playing the role like Trottier did at the end of his career.

Seems like a man that knows Uncle Gary is going to get him Gavin McKenna and Landon DuPont.
Crosby probably wont be in the NHL in 2027-2028 when Dupont makes it (assuming no busting occurs and he becomes a Veleno/Sean Day type guy

McKenna makes it in 2026-2027 so likely Crosby' final season

Pens will likely be able to get 1 of them so if Crosby is there for a season to mentor these level of prospects will bode well for their chances of hitting on their ceilings

It’s basically impossible to win the Cup. It’s stupidly hard in the cap era. If he leaves there’s a 90% chance he doesn’t win with his new team. It’s a stupid decision given that he has 3 Cups and has a couple chances to stack his international resume more.

Hate to say it but I feel like it says something... not great... about a player when they are openly content with just not winning any more.
That is entirely your assumption. And a pretty weird one.

In a league that's filled with elite, dedicated players, he is still one of the most competitive of them all.

But yeah, he's content sitting on his ass... sure...

His legacy won't really be changed by going to another team to win cup 4. But staying in Pittsburgh means he will finish as one of the greatest athletes in Pittsburgh sports history.
Yeah don’t think he needs to stay in Pittsburgh for that. This is already cemented.

I mean he said himself he feels comfortable continuing to play on the 2nd worst team in the eastern conference. A team everyone knows is on the downturn and possibly won't make the playoffs for several years at least. It is what it is

Maybe your definition of being competitive is hopping on whatever is the hottest bandwagon of the day but I can assure you that's not how it works.

Again, to portray Sydney Crosby, of all athletes, as someone who is "content not winning" is furiously delusional.

I just think these are weird things to say and do as a hypercompetitive player. and it's Sidney
