You go back to 2007, 2008, 2009, I hated this guy .

He was a nasty kid at first, I think he would admit that, and I was a kid too.

Now we're both in our 30's and somebody posted this the other day:

And I was just like "yeah, man." Sidney f***ing Crosby. The player of my generation.

After all these years, I'd actually be pretty happy to see him get another shot. If he's comfortable just running it out, he deserves that too. I have a ton of respect for him.

Does more for his legacy and all-time status to stay with Pittsburgh for 22 years than chase after something he won 3 times already.
It doesn't do anything for his legacy because at least half of the Hockey world thinks he's wasting his final good years and nothing changes in Pitt, he is a legend on an awful team going nowhere. His right, but the idea that he's not "adding" by going somewhere else also applies to Pitt, he's not adding anything there either, at least to half the Hockey world who want to see him somewhere else

That’s in the moment thinking. When reflecting on his career after it’s over, most of the hockey world will appreciate that he spent his entire career with one franchise and considering he already has the team based hardware needed, wearing a Penguins jersey for 22 years outweighs a random playoff run or two more on another team with no guarantee of winning another Cup.

"I'm so glad Crosby wasted the final 5 years of his productive Hockey playing on an atrocious team going nowhere."-Diehard Pens fans

It's a blessing to still be an excellent player at his age, a good chunk of Hockey fans don't want to see him not do something with that. Again his right, but as a neutral fan it's a waste and not at all adding anything to his Pitt legacy. Everyone knows he is a Pitt legend, maybe one can argue he's even the Pitt GOAT, him toiling away towards nothing changes nothing. If anything, it has to be demoralizing to know the rest of his team is cooked and he has no real help every night.

Right now Sid has a shot at a 4-Nations gold and next year a shot at Olympics again. He can also play World Championships again this year. I think he's gonna be focused on those tourneys. If he can pick up another couple golds it will really round out his career.

In Pittsburgh, I think he has his eyes on Lemieux's franchise point record.

I bet it's just a matter of time before management pushes him to accept a trade, and he goes along with it. Maybe it will be the trade deadline of his final season (likely 2026-27).

Seems like the kind of answer you would expect. Hes not going to rock the boat, and if there are discussions about his future, he's not going to be the one breaking it to the media.

You’re entitled to that opinion I guess but Penguins fans, nor Sidney Crosby himself, give a single flying f*** about what people think or want him to do

This is just stupid. You actually believe 10-20 years from now people will remember Crosby for his waning years on the Penguins team, and not the international success, 3 cups, PPG throughout his career, top 10 in points, etc etc etc.

You really believe they will go “well he played on an awful team when he was almost 40”.

You honestly actually believe what you are saying?

Matthews and Marner aren’t winning anything in Toronto. They should also request trades.

That's not what I said, can you read?

I said him wasting his last 5 productive years on an awful team does nothing for his legacy, not that it is his legacy.

Really? I thought Sid was going to read my posts and stop wasting the end of his career.

Sadly the only hope of competing with Crosby on the roster is getting lottery luck like the Leafs did and drafting a Marner and Matthews in 2025 and 2026 and both are impact NHLers by 2026-27. And getting a couple good players from the current prospect pool. And swing a couple nice signings and trades.

Do all that and maybe they can make some noise with a 39 year old Sid in 2026-2027.

It’s just not feasible in such a short timeframe really. Things wouldn’t need to go well. They’d need to go perfectly.

Imagine if a superstar talent thought it would mean more to try to return the only pro franchise he's ever known to relevancy than end his career a travelling glory whore like Kevin Durant.

The last 2 years Pittsburgh had 8 more points than Washington, and look where the Caps are now. A couple good trades and some draft luck and there's no reason why the Pens couldn't have more playoff runs during Sid's career.

He has no hope of another Cup with the Pens.

That said, him and Malkin are legends of the game and put butts in seats for the Pens, even while the franchise struggles. Both have earned the right to retire there together.
Our attendance drop has been some of the steepest over the last couple years. No one wants to pay several hundred dollars to see them lose 6-0 to Ottawa. Though I did.

It was different when they were building for the future decades ago. Die hard fans went to see what they thought was the new generation. Since they won’t commit to a rebuild it’s turned into a retirement tour. People pay attention for the milestones but that’s about it.

He's doing nothing for his legacy in Pittsburgh
There is something to the Yzerman-Sakic-Beliveau-Lidstrom never traded or move captain to a legacy, maybe not much, but a little something.

Not saying it is a big stain on the Modano-Alfredsson-Sundin-Iginla of the world, not ending up with their teams, but there is something romantic to it. If you win it all like Bourque, sure, if you don't...

Has for trade-rebuild, contract-cap can make that hard to fit

Comfort kills growth Sid
Where in the hell does he need to grow? He’s at the end of his career basically. That’s like telling a 75 year old they need to reinvent their entire lives.

What in the hell are they teaching you guys in Toronto? Some of the dumbest shit I’ve read on this site today.
