This was always going to be a long process. The fact that the Jets got hot in this shortened season while the likely divisional powers (Washington, Carolina, and even Tampa) struggled, allowed us to rise to top. This fuelled heightened expectations. Yes, the Jets are in a tailspin right now, but the collective record is likely around where many had pegged them to be at the beginning of the campaign.

I firmly believe that when this team does start to get rolling, it will not be with players like Buff carrying the mail. They are here for right now. Ultimately, Kane, Bogo, Scheifele and Trouba will inherit the keys to the franchise. That is the group (amidst others) that is going to carry us where we need to go. They are just either not in the lineup, not seasoned enough, or do not have the requisite help to do so. In time, we will get there.

Well at least Kane showed heart. Emillin should thank his lucky stars Kane didn't land any of those hay makers. Ah I miss Peluso.

I was cringing during that fight with Emelin considering his facial reconstruction but if you want to play in the league with severe facial damage you have to change your game.
Sooner or later something bad is going to happen and I feel sorry for the person that ends his career more than Emelin who didn't see fit to change his playstyle to be less abrasive.

This always seems to get ignored.

I guess it falls on Chevy for not having a crystal ball?

Agreed. Jokinen was a good move, no matter the outcome. I really think he'll bounce back next year, if not he will have opened the door for Scheifele who might just take that weakness and run with it.

Emelin is tough as nails, he doesn't care. That is a guy I would love to have on my team.

Habs fans were crying for exactly that when Chara went after Emelin for crosschecking Seguin a few weeks ago.

Not too much crying over at the Habs PGT, I wouldn't worry about it. Most realize Emelin deserved it. Not much of an issue. Wondering about a 1 game suspension and 10k fine for the coach. Kane did get the extra misconduct.

I'm sure any new coach that comes in would yield the same results except PK/PP might be a little better with new assistants. There isn't enough talent throughout the entire team. We really don't have a legitimate top line and we have yet to find a center and winger for Kane.

I have heard the "fitness" in the jets locker room is atrocious compared to other teams. Not only that but many players do not take part in practice. The travel has seemed to be killer on some of the players as well. Pavs is also known to be MIA in the locker room after games and other players are probably putting the blame game on him. We don't really know what is going on in there but they aren't on the same page. He could be probably beating himself up every time and its hurting his confidence.

I will be upset now if we continue this nose dive and don't at least make the playoffs because I would of rather had sold Hainsey/Antropov or any other player for draft picks so we could stock the cupboards for the future. Seeing as Chevy likes to go the waiver wire route it would at least plug a hole until our prospects are ready. I think this team really needs that first playoff experience to give them a taste of it, something to fight for the next season.

I would let Perry Pearn/Pascal Vincent go before Noel. These players also need to play their A game every night. I know I'm not the only one that sees a lot of floaters on this team.

Sorry if I rambled on a little emotional after tonights performance.

This teams lack of scoring power is seriously getting scary :help:. I dont understand why Toby's goal was not allowed though. :shakehead

I hope they bring in coach challenges on disallowed goals. I know it is nice when one happens for us, but from what I have seen most times a goal stands on replay. This is where replay would make games more "even".
Perhaps even one step better, if it goes in the net, it is a goal...and the coach can challenge if there is question.

We have the technology to review goals, so why not use it?

Not saying we would have won if the goal stood, however it may have changed the dynamic of the game.

I am as deflated as the next fan, this team simply is what it is. My armchair GM mind thinks we need to make a couple bold changes to bring a new feel and culture to the team while also seeing Chevy fill a few of our big roster issues. Maybe this is a good thing, perhaps Chevy thinks long and hard here about making a few bold changes to this roster over the summer. It could be an opportune time with the salary cap going down and teams having to cut ties with some players. And let's be honest here, we've seen 2 seasons of this group, enough is enough, their true colors have more than shown.

If we ride this group (for the most part) into next season for the 3rd consecutive year, I'm gunna be pretty pissed off. We can still build via the draft while also swapping/trading players and signing quality UFA's. And I do believe we have players teams would want. I have been open and thinking about trading Byfuglien for a while now, but I am now REALLY hoping it happens. He is a player we could get a significant return on, I would imagine. And moving Byfuglien also drastically hits the room and helps begin changing the culture. Something with this group has to change between now and next October.

On the flip side here, we are what we are and we are where we are. We have 9 games remaining here, 7 of them at home. I have a feeling we can still put this huge slump behind us here and perhaps finish strong in these final 9 games.

The coaching staff and leaders have to prevail here, because as crappy as we have been the last 10 games or so, the opportunity for the division and playoffs is still staring us right in the face.

Well, I guess its safe to say the honeymoon is officially over?

Ah the joys of having a pro hockey franchise eh? I remember this feeling from Jets 1.0.

Yeah, last night was not fun to watch. It was pretty much an exercise in futility. It really is astounding how poorly things are going for this team now. Literally NOTHING is working. They've managed to put together two or three decent periods over the last half-dozen games, but even those "good" periods looked pretty weak compared to most other teams. I mean I've watched a few games recently between teams other than our Jets and its pretty sobering to see the cohesiveness and overall structure of a real NHL team compared to what we've got going on.

About ten or so games into this season, I was feeling like this was a different team from last year. I thought "holy crap, this team is playing like a BIG team. They are hitting and checking and playing hard as nails hockey!" It really seemed like the little changes Chevy had made over the summer - the addition of size - had had a huge effect and the Jets were no longer getting pushed around. Well, that's all gone now. This team is soft as hell. They can't do anything to alter the other teams gameplan.

For the first time, I'm thinking things like coaching changes and trading "core" players should be considered. I'm a huge Buff fan. I really love what Buff at his best brings to the table. But he's lost it for the last month and I have started to feel like he's checked out on the program.

I hope we get some great draft picks this year...

Just wanted to float an idea out there . . .

Does anyone think that Cheveldayoff had a significant role in the Blackhawks Stanley Cup? Didn't he get hired that same year? The pieces were already in place when he got there, so why is he considered a good choice based on that criteria?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing him here based on the summer or trade deadline. I just think having that as his criteria, what was he truly responsible for in Chicago? Nick Leddy was a great acquisition but it's not like we can conclusively say that was his doing.

But this is still awesome. We are talking about a faltering team that needs to be remade, but at least we are talking about our faltering team that needs to be remade. A couple years ago we talked about wishing we had a hockey team.

Now is way way way better. I'm in for the long term, so they suck once again, there is always hope for the future when you have an actually hockey team.

I have one more game on the 11th and will be wearing at minimum 3 pieces of Jets gear, and cheering my *** no matter what happens between now and then. The honeymoon period is in full swing even though the rational side of me doesn't think this current roster has a hope in hell of making the playoffs.

I actually feel like there's not a single "untouchable" player on the team at this point. Maybe Ladd and Wheels, but I'm not even sure about them. Buff, Enstrom, Burmi, even Kane I could part with.

This team is a mess right now and I'm not sure how it can really be fixed.

Really, I think these last 9 games should be used to assess where we are and start making plans for what gets changed over the summer. Get Trouba on the ice for the experience. Try and figure out who wants to be here and who doesn't...

Oh for sure! That honeymoon comment was more of a joke really. I've hated that phrase since last year when people started floating it around endlessly. The fact is there's a large contingent of people both outside of Winnipeg and in the city itself who would be very happy to see the franchise fail and they are quick to try and paint everything that happens in a way that calls out the fanbase and the city in general.

This is a bad team and changes need to be made, but I love having the team here and I love living and dying based on whatever happened in last nights game. Wouldn't have it any other way...

It only took Noel 2 years to come out and say what most of us have being saying, Buff mostly really does suck.

Straight trade Buff for a top 6 DONE! Dude looks disinterested, out of shape and not really as good as he and many think, sick of watching his out of position fat ass staring at the puck in the back of the Jets net every game!

I don't want to come off as too negative, because I'm not when it comes to the team as a whole. I still think this team has a great future.

BUT! Buff is a very big (no pun intended) bargaining chip and I think his return could be more advantageous than keeping him. He seriously looks disinterested and I think he would welcome a trade. Package him up and get a SERIOUS top scorer to play with Kane. We would be much further ahead with a great forward that could not only score on their own, but help Kane ratchet up his game even further as well.

Buff's stock is going to drop dramatically in the next year or two IMO. Either because of his play, his attitude or injury to that huge body that is never really looked after.

that was terrible...this team looks mentally defeated with zero confidence. They look like they won't win a game all year. It's sad to watch.

Chevy said he wants to build through the draft....does he hope the prospects we have now make the difference in one to three years? Will Schiefle/Trouba/Lowry be enough when Enstrom/Buff/Wheeler are over 30?

Personally I don't think so. That leaves the draft. The older core could gain enormous amounts of young talent. For Wheeler/Buff and Enstrom could return you three firsts and probably two to three other solid prospects.

f your going to build through the draft why not go all the way and add as much as you can to the Kane/Burmi/Schiefle/Trouba/Burmistrov/Lowry/Bogosian group and build up a great group of 18 to 23 year olds?

I think this is the right way to go...how does a combo of Monohan/Pulock/Shinkaruk sound? and more?

Chevy must have thought about this...hopefully he can make something like this happen at the draft. It's difficult to say goodbye to important veterans but if you think the draft is the way to go....well h***, go all the way.

I agree with this as well. We have a great core group and a couple of great prospects likely to start next year. There is NOTHING like the enthusiasm of youth in sport. I would love to see us bite the bullet and trade for a couple more picks this year or straight up in a trade.

We really have quite a few expensive pieces that seem content to put in a mediocre game. It's not unreasonable to expect your millionaire players to have the intensity and drive of Kane. Unfortunately, we only have one of him.
