That's me in the corner
I would have to say the Price/PK/Pac for Lecavalier trade is the craziest trade that never happened.

https://thehockeywriters.com/what-if-the-canadiens-had-acquired-vincent-lecavalier-in-2009/

Let’s start off by mentioning that this was only a rumor, but lets talk about what the proposed deal was.
Proposed Rumors

There are multiple reports out there that the Canadiens had offered a big package that included Carey Price, PK Subban and Max Pacioretty. This report came from former Tampa Bay GM Brian Lawton, but it appears that this was not accurate according to Bob Gainey. We may never know the true story, but from what Gainey said, the offer included Tomas Plekanec, Chris Higgins and Josh Gorges.

Hall and Drouin to St. Louis for Shattenkirk, but Shatty wouldn't sign with Edmonton or Tampa.

Tkachuk and Perron for Kessel.

LaFontaine for Yzerman almost happened in the early 90s. Detroit coveted LaFontaine since juniors. If that trade happens Sabres win the cup in 99 and possibly even 98 or another year. Hasek+Yzerman would have been incredible. Hasek alone nearly carried the Sabres to a cup, add a bonafide superstar center and they would have.

Lafontaine was a super star center? One of the highest scoring americans and I think he in the Hall of Fame?

Vancouver was interested in Brad Richards before he was traded to Dallas. Nonis apparently turned down a trade involving Kesler, Bourdon, Schneider, and Raymond.

Canucks tried to trade Gudbranson for Demers but Demers wouldn't waive to Vancouver.

Canucks offered their 1st (22nd overall - ended up being Jordan Schroeder), Burrows, and Bieksa for 2nd overall (Hedman), which Yzerman turned down .

The funniest part of this one is that when it was first rumored, the first response was "no way is it a one for one, St. Louis needs to add here." But Hall went 1 for 1 for Larsson, so it likely was a 1 for 1.

Was Yzerman in the helm in Tampa then?

He wasn't yet, Yzerman was hired a month or so before the 2010 Draft. Brian Lawton and the cowboy ownership crew of Barrie/Koules was stilll in charge of Tampa. I do recall the Leafs having a behind the scenes show with their 2009 Draft prep. Brian Burke mentioned that he had heard Vancouver offered up Burrows, Bieksa, and their 1st to try to move up for Hedman.

Yzerman wasn't the GM. It was Lawton at the time...which makes it amazing. Lawton is a freaking moron, so it should baffle people he didn't take it.

Yeah I contemplated not including that, as it was more of an offer that was leaked that never had a high chance of working out. It is worth noting that Bieksa was coming off multiple 40+ point seasons and was 27 years old, and Burrows was coming off a 50 point season where he almost hit 30 goals and was 28 years old. In hindsight it would look terrible, but if Hedman didn't pan out and turned out more in the mold of a Ryan Murray, then it would have been a win for Tampa.

There was one potential Lindros deal that involved the Blackhawks sending Belfour and Larmer+ to the Nords. It would have been interesting to see if the Hawks got the job done in the 90s with Lindros and Hasek instead of Belfour. Also the trickle down kills Roy to the Avs in 96.

I think it was “almost” since word is aquilini was on board and pressing for it and nonis stood his ground and convinced him it was bad for the future of the franchise.

They missed the playoffs and nonis lost his job. I always appreciated nonis putting the team ahead of his job security.
