Man It is going to feel good with a Guy Boucher and Marc Crawford tandem. The only thing that would top it all off is if Yeo was the second assistant coach

Hockey Gods: "OK, Ottawa, you can have Boucher, Yeo or Crawford as coach. Who will it be?"

Senators: "... yes."

As long as this was Boucher's idea and not a shotgun wedding, it's a great tandem. It's also a good place for Crawford to be - if the Sens do well in 2016-17 his stock goes up, and he instantly becomes a top candidate for the next hiring cycle...

It feels good to say ottawas new assistant coach is better than our last year's head coach.

Boucher just basically confirmed that Crawford will be an assistant coach in his press conference with Pierre Dorion.

Confirmed.

Boucher just said that he's had Crawford in mind for 2 years, and that when he thought about what he would do differently if given another chance to coach in N, he would hire an assistant who has coached at the NHL level before.

He also said he called Crawford to offer him the job.

Ottawa unless it becomes a disaster
I wanted Crawford if we couldn't get Boudreau for HC.

Having him as an assistant will be great. Seems like we are assembling a very good coaching staff with a wealth of experience.

If my choice is Boucher + Crawford vs. Boudreau, I take what we've got every time.

Associate Coach.

Crawford will have extra responsibilities including being the liaison between Bingo and Ottawa, as well as "giving information to other teams about our players."

Will also help with Development Camp.

Just a guess, but my interpretation was that he would help with pro-scouting.

So if a team wanted to make a trade, he would be responsible for knowing the players and being able to give report.

OR, he misspoke and meant to say he would give Ottawa the info about Bingo. (as in what players to call up)

It's good that Dorion realizes he himself is not a very good speaker

Quite the makeover happening. Wonder if he has another name he wants as well as a D specialist. And a Goalie Coach?

Should shake out before the draft. Great PR for the team as it all comes together.

We were talking about this possibility last night in the other thread and I'm way on board with Crawford as an A. I wasn't convinced he was the guy for the Head job, I think Boucher will do a better job, but now this makes the Boucher hiring that much better because he has a very experienced former head coach working with him. I think this is going to be great actually, even though I thought the Sens should have gone after Boudreau "to prove a point", I'm much more excited about this coaching tandem than a Boudreau who I really wasn't all that sold on him.

I like it. From the sounds of Boucher - Crawford was his choice. We said we would give our new coach discretion to choose who he wanted. At least we're following through on it.

Crawford has tons of experience. His systems might be outdated but he has tons of experience dealing with players and he will be teaching Boucher's systems, not his systems.

As long as Boucher is okay with it and it's his call (it seems like this is the case) then I am okay with it. Now we just need Gerber as a goaltending coach, let's brain drain the Swiss workforce!

Gerber is still playing in Switzerland (or at least was playing this past season, not sure if he'll get another contract), funnily enough. He's gonna turn 42 soon, quite impressive. Speaking of ages, I just realised that Guy Boucher is only half a year older than Jaromir Jagr :amazed:

I'm quite impressed that Crawford has already agreed to be second fiddle after publicly campaigning for the head coach job. I guess Calgary had no interest in bringing in another former NHL coach from Switzerland. Or maybe he's just really impressed by Boucher's ideas?

I was not too thrilled about the prospect of having Boucher as head coach, but after what I've been reading in these threads I'm warming up to him. He seems very well prepared and to have a plan and I like that he's being praised for his capability of adapting his plans and systems to circumstances. Let's see how he holds up. I'm kinda worried that he might turn to very defensive systems when initial plans don't work (which he seems to have done both in Tampa and in Bern) but I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to offer.
