People just wanna see effort every night .
Still dicking around for goaltending after 9 years
No one expects a cup with this core

Good point but all signs point we won't win a cup with this group
Too many good goaltenders in this division
Vassey swayman ullmark bob just name 4
I think the issue is, a lot of fans DO expect a cup, and want to contend for a presidents trophy with this core.

I don't post all that much to this forum, but I have been reading it for years, and listening to talk radio, talking to fans about the team, I get the impression that many fans think this is the most talented roster in the league and cannot fathom whey they don't have a couple cups already.

Sure, there will be complaints when they lose, but its usually "They are ALWAYS more talented then who they play, its either the refs fault of a lucky bounce or just lack of effort" why they lose. I truly think that there are a lot more people out there who think this is the most talented core, the most talented roster in the league by far, and the frustration is because they DO expect a Cup, or Cups, from them.

I personally get your point, and I think they have this year and next for a good look at a cup but If forced to I'd bet against it.

Time to switch up the lines and the PP. Tavares has no business being on PP1, turns it over at least once a powerplay.

Marner and Matthews look like dogs, put 88 with 34. Enough is Enough.

Is Berube allowed to break up MM and AM. That is the big thing because it looks like contractually these guys are glued.

No question that Marner wants to play there, and the org would like that he signs a favourable deal, and likely feel that breaking them up makes that less likely.

But this can't continue for much longer...

Breath of fresh air to see the team putting in full 60 minutes of effort. Every game so far.

We won't win them all, but it was never about that.

The problem was letting them show up for 20-40 minutes night after night and thinking that was ok if the score went our way.
yikes.

Leafs Home Board

Craig Berube did not like anything about the Leafs' play on Thursday as they lost their second in a row in embarrassing fashion, this time on home ice in Toronto.

For the second straight game, the Leafs found themselves down 2-0 early and were unable to mount any sort of comeback on Thursday night. The Leafs ultimately fell 5-1 to Berube's former team, the St. Louis Blues.

On Tuesday, Berube felt the Leafs started too slow against Columbus. Last night, not only did they start slow, but Berube felt they made way too many mistakes and got "too cute" on the Blues' third goal.

"We made mistakes, bottom line. Defensive mistakes. There was a lack of awareness on some of them. For me, we gave them three goals. It shouldn't happen. We are just losing coverage. We are not helping each other out in coverage areas. There is too much time and space on some of them instead of being physical and closing plays out.

The PK goal - the forward is in the wrong spot, and they get it to the front of the net. Some of them are mental mistakes. On some of them, we have to be harder and more physical killing plays."

Marner to PP#2 and Knies to PP#1

PP#1 - Matthews - Nylander - Tavares - Knies -- OEL

PP#2 - Marner - Domi - McMann - Robertson -- Rielly
I like it. To get more variety I may even move JT for McMann.

At this point just do anything.

I'm far happier with Berube so far than I expected. Really feels like he understand what needs to happen for this team to turn a corner.

It can't be surprising that old bad habits are still popping up. It's not even 10 games into Berube's tenure. I trust he's going to get things into shape by game 83. I'm pretty convinced now that he's the right guy for the job.

Why does he continue to staple 16 with 34 and why does he have 91 on pp1 and why didn't he sit that top line for at least a few shifts with the way they sucked ass?

Say what you want about Berube, and point to how things are still the same under him...

But the fact that he has Matthews PKing is a win and puts him ahead of Keefe on that alone.

It's early in the season. I'm glad he's not putting lines in a blender constantly.

And JT is not a problem on PP1. The whole powerplay isn't clicking. And one of the big issues has been moving the puck/getting set up, which isn't the responsibility of the net-front guy which Tavares is.
