The Kings essentially set their opening-night roster on Monday morning when they put forward Adam Cracknell and defenseman Jeff Schultz on waivers.
If neither player is claimed by another team before tomorrow morning, both will be assigned to Manchester of the AHL, and the Kings' 23-man roster will be set for their season opener against San Jose on Wednesday.
The winners are forward Andy Andreoff and defenseman Brayden McNabb, who, as expected, beat out Cracknell and Schultz for the final two roster spots.

If he was the better player, he should have. As always though, I'll drink the cup winning champagne that DL is dishing out and believe this is the ebst decision.

It had to be this way. The Kings can't afford to lose players on ELCs that have the relative same skill sets as the two guys that were waived.

I fully expect that both Schultz and Cracknell will clear and make valuable contributions in terms of leadership and play to the Monarchs this coming season. It's also nice to know that should an emergency occur, that Schultz is more than capable to play against high-level NHL competition.

It was funny when a few people thought Cracknell was actually gonna make the team out of camp.

I thought it was funny that Andy barley out played Cracknell and even made it a competition....

Andy's still not out of the woods yet.... If he doesn't show why he's on the roster quick Weal's going to be nipping at his heals.

The Kings simply weren't ever going to place Andreoff (or McNabb) on waivers. They spent a lot of time developing him and liking what they've seen. This was over seasons, not a training camp or a couple of exhibition games. There was zero chance that someone they signed off the scrap heap in Cracknell, who ANY team could've signed and didn't, was going to beat out a homegrown product. Some team may actually claim Cracknell and/or Schultz, but I doubt it.

``I think they also played pretty well. Their body of work has been pretty strong. In Brayden’s case, I think he struggled a little bit early, but he was pretty good here down the stretch. They’re not easy decisions to make, but there are only so many players you can keep. So it’s not only a long-term decision. It’s also what’s best for the team in the short term. But those are two really good players, productive players to have in your system, Schultz and Cracknell, so I’m hoping that they still remain on our roster. Because you’re going to need them at some point.’’

Someone will pick up Schultz, as for Andreoff he still needs to prove himself in my opinion. You can make an argument that Weal/Cracknell had a better camp.

I've never understood placing so much emphasis on camp performance. It's a few week period when everyone is shaking off rust and playing in unusual situations - hardly the place to decide whether someone fits or not. This kind of thinking is what cost us a month of play from Toffoli at the beginning of last season.

The Kings coaching and management don't think that way.

The rumor is that Toffoli didn't take his offseason conditioning as seriously as management would have liked so they made him earn his way back up again

I know they may think differently, but I've never understood it myself.

Schultz two year contract is going to keep him a King. No team is going to want 980k for two years of a 7th D man. Thought Cracknell played better than Nolan and Andy, too bad the guy didn't make the roster.

If Ellerby can make it through waivers so can Schultz....

Didn't realize Schultz was only 28! He's just coming into his prime as a defender!

I agree with this 100%. Watch every game a couple guys play for 3-4 years. Then decide who you want to keep based on one slightly out preforming another in 2 games where 95% of the team already has a spot locked and playing with guys you might never play with again....

Also confused by people who think Cracknall did well in camp. Fool did nothing...no big hits, no dominate possession, and no offensive impact. Honestly no clue what some many people on this board think they saw.

Also agree with DL on McNabb, thought he and Forbort were garbage the first Ducks game. But thought he was real strong vs the Avs, outside the ticky-tack interference call. (though DD has that effect)
