per Craig Morgan

“It’s a bit of a logjam,†[Arizona GM John] Chayka admitted. “We’re still looking at some different options; different things to do.â€

“If there’s a move that helps everyone and creates some flexibility for us.. that’s what we’re evaluating right now, but I would say there’s still some work to be done.â€
It’s no secret that the Coyotes would like to add other pieces to their roster. They are thin at right wing, with just Anthony Duclair, Shane Doan and perhaps Ryan White under contract. They are also at a contract impasse with left wing Tobias Rieder and they have long coveted a top-four defenseman.
With all the moves Chayka has made this summer, you can’t help wondering if he is plotting another big one in the Goligoski vein. On the one hand, several of the players mentioned above only warrant bottom-six roles in the blue line, but it’s possible the Coyotes could look to package one of their defenseman along with a prospect to shore up other areas of the roster, whether it’s for a scoring wing or a top-four, right-handed defenseman.

Heading into the NHL Draft, the Coyotes were interested in players such as St. Louis defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who is probably still available at the right price, and Winnipeg’s Jacob Trouba. It’s unlikely that desire has changed, but Chayka is likely examining multiple options as he looks to improve a team that still can’t confidently say it is a playoff contender in the rugged Western Conference.

Knowing that OEL is not moving, it will be very, VERY tough to put up a good enough package for Trouba.

Seems like they are in the market for a veteran RW, more than another top 4 dman when they already have OEL, Goligoski,Stone and Murphy.

I imagine they're looking for a clear upgrade, but I'm guessing they could just sign Vrbata on a cheap one year to hold the spot while Fischer plays in the WJC/Memorial Cup and they see how Merkley and Samuelsson recover from the injuries.

Why get 1 top-4 defenseman when you could get 2 top-8 defenseman?!

Staal & Girardi for future considerations?!

My guess is they offered Stone+ and when it wasn't accepted they moved on. At this point, I don't think there's an offer to be made & accepted for Trouba from the Yotes. The cost will simply be too much in $ and trade assets, so I think they can cross him off the list.

Yeah. There's just a handful of assets which would make sense for us, and it goes without saying that they are the worst non-OEL assets for you to give up. Every forward expect for Strome and Domi would be just redundant for us. You need your goalies and they don't upgrade us enough. OEL and Goligoski aren't moving, Stone is recovering, so it leaves Murphy, who has to come back in any case. Chychrun would also make a lot of sense for us. So yeah, my ask would likely be Murphy + Strome + Chychrun for Trouba + Petan or something like that. We kind of don't have to settle for anything less than that, given the scarcity of young top pairing RHDs.

Yeah, I don't agree. Arizona has prospect chips to play that few could match.

Yet only the best, most high-end ones are of any value for us. We need players who can contribute now.

Gagner is better as a RW than a C from what I recall (didn't follow him a ton in Philly)

That would be an easy pass for the Coyotes so you're right, there's not likely a deal that makes sense for both teams.
