This is a year where I would NOT try to move up. It was poorly scouted and so many kids barely played. It’s so random, that I’d prefer more shots in the dark than earlier but fewer picks.

Agreed but still think BA wants to make his first first round selection. More of a thing to frame on a wall than anything else. A formality of being a GM that he has not been able to do yet. Especially if he aquires a 4th 2nd. Hell AM may tell him to get back into the first for publicity sake.

I’m hoping we can get a late 1st for Kuemper. If we can’t, and we can’t find a taker for OEL, maybe Garland goes to LAK, VAN, or OTT at 8,9,10 for whatever the top center left on the board is (Mason McTavish, Kent Johnson or Chaz Lucius).

Like I said, nothing done to make we say "wow".
Weren't you wanting Hill to go over Kuemper? Shouldn't that be a win?

None of these were blockbusters but beyond OEL is anyone expecting one? Can OEL still be considered a blockbuster trade?

I doubt any of us want to see Garland moved, if we can find a way to keep him than that's a win. It's the only potential loss with any reliable rumors behind it.

Ladd is a nothing piece we got paid to take.

The closest thing to a loss I can find is OEL still being on the books and that only matters if we get to FA without a trade in place. That's it.

All of our under contract players that matter are still here. We can still be competitive next season while also building for the future.

What are you expecting? I'm amazed we've accomplished what we have, I was not expecting it. Everything rumored and everything BA has done thus far leads me to believe I'll be very happy with our roster come October. Even if we can't make every move we want to make this offseason, there is a clear direction to this team for the first time ever I think. Even Maloney with all of his good was gambling on reclamation projects with very specific skill sets. BA has a clear path, his moves feel deliberate, not like someone trying to cut salary for the sake of saving money but to fulfill specific needs and timelines. I see detail and objectivity.

BA is impressing me. I suspect our roster will be below average but we as a fan base will be very excited about our future. I suspect I, along with a significant amount of others, will be wowed. We should already have a sense of amazement.

Edit: I should mention that I didn't know you could trade something for nothing. That aids my amazement.

I had spent most of the past few months preparing to say goodbye to one of Hill or Kuemper. Ended up saying goodbye to Hill but not how I expected to.

Of the exposed player, the one on the list that hurts me most to see is Michael Bunting.

I expect Bunting to sign with someone else in less than two weeks anyways. Do the league react if that turns out to be accidentally Kraken, after they also pick someone else?

Remember when Carson Soucy was running Conor Garland?
I also remember the Yotes getting pushed around and the team did nothing game after game. Lets get a real protector that actually intimidates the opposition. Bring back the original dancing bear.

I'll reserve my final judgement after the draft and FA. So far, nothing moves the needle. Getting a second for Hill was a good move, but the Islander trade did nothing for me, unless we can use those picks to somehow move up in the draft, but realistically, those players that get selected with those picks will probably never play in the NHL.

I’d like to sign Schenn AND keep Crouse.
Yandle, Martinook and now Schenn. What happened to trade everyone over 25? Or was that yesterday?:) Do not want any of those three.

Even if they don't play in the NHL they will hold value until it becomes clear that that player may not make the cut for the big league. Those drafted players or picks can be used to help acquire something else. We essentially went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of produce and meat with our 15 dollar budget instead of order delivery. Our purchase goes longer than making moves for a single late 1st. I suspect this is just the start.

Also, we have an extremely talented amateur scouting group. These aren't the guys who drafted Fischer instead of Aho.

For all the inane banalities that get tossed around here by certain folks, like “talk is cheap”, and other bumper sticker truisms, it should be reassuring to this same crowd that our amateur scouting department has such a good track record demonstrated success and great reputations.

That is what BA is banking on. BA has stated that he has to hit it out of the park in FA, trades and the draft. It will be an interesting couple of weeks. By the way "talk is cheap".

Man. You really don’t get it? Can you not spot the difference between trading everyone over 25 for assets and icing a roster exclusive comprised of players under 25? Do you just not understand what a rebuild actually is?

I have witnessed more rebuilds than years you have watched hockey. I know exactly how a rebuild works and it's not what you invision.

Seattle looks poised to have the All Star roster from 2015. Wonder if they manage to get into the playoffs year one. Guess we will have a better idea Wednesday. This expansion draft seems way more exciting than the last one too.

Theodore, Tuch, Karlsson gave Vegas a solid nucleus right out of the gate. And then Florida just gave them Marchessault and Reilly for extra measure. Schmidt and Perron. Haula and Nosek. Miller and Neal. Vegas actually got paid a 2nd to take Fleury.

This time around, teams are protecting the good kush more and leaving guys being paid in full exposed because f*** it. They don't want to end up being frisked for a quality youngster like what Vegas did. They know the value of not being in a cap bind more now. And Seattle can't take everyone.

Seattle will still have a bevy of D to choose from and some surprisingly good veteran top 6 guys. I just don't see the raw output to make them instant contenders like Vegas (who enjoyed instant breakouts from players like Karlsson). They've been talking about a longer term approach to their fans because that's probably going to be necessary.
