NFL: Cowboys to hire Brian Schottenheimer as head coach

Was once reprimanded by someone about how Jerry Jones doesn't meddle as much anymore, or that it's Stephen.

Believe me when I tell you that anything that Dallas does goes through Jerry Jones. He has a hand in all personnel and FO and football decisions.

Schottenheimer's father was a very great man. His son may as well be a good man too. But at the end of the day, he is a stooge for Jerry who will do his bidding on the field.

They were never going to get any high profile coaching free agent with this structure.

Yep. Jerry is cheap. It means he's not in the market for top coaches.

This is a truly underwhelming hire. It's going to be followed by another off-season of inaction.
It's also that Jerry is the owner, president, and GM of the team and that power doesn't sit well with most coaches who want their own people in

Nah. Jerry could easily hire anyone he wants if he was willing to use the vast resources of his $10 billion monster.

These coaches are competitive. If Jerry told one of these top candidates he was going to make them the highest paid coach in football, they wouldn't care about the power stuff the same.

There is no salary cap for the coaching staff. Jerry could have the best staff, but he chooses not to. He doesn't value coaching.

Jones owns the biggest cash cow in the world, is in the HOF and has multiple rings. Like he really cares to win again.

The team hasn't made a conference championship since the first Clinton administration, yet had half a billion in operating income last year.

No, he wants to meddle. No serious coach will allow the owner to meddle in his daily operations so Jerry will not hire a serious coach.

You have to feel for guys like Dak, CeeDee, Micah, Martin, etc. who pour their heart out on the field for an organization that doesn't care about winning. Hell for all the criticism Mike McCarthy too.

Selecting from the “would say yes to working under this clown” pile…and still drawing from the bottom.

I seriously haven’t heard Cowboys fans this ready to check out since the late 80s.

This is such a sad give up. But it’s what you get when you set a below market coaching salary cap.

His contract is four years.

I almost feel bad for them. Things can change quickly in the nfl but can't really see that happening with this hire and Dak's extension. They probably won't be bad enough to get a top 5 ouck but not good enough to make the playoffs.

I was amazed to see McCarthy was one of the lowest paid HC's in the league at 4 mil a year, Schottenheimer has to be even less I'd think
