Countdown: Sidney Crosby's 18th consecutive point-per-game season

I'm really curious what this bot will do once Crosby retires; same as the daver bot.
I'm sure he will just pick whoever the best Pen player is at that time and continue to post negative comments every chance he gets. Meanwhile anyone that calls him out on it, will continue to be put in the HFB penalty box.

Most "points per game on the schedule" seasons (regardless how many games the player actually played)
  • 17x - Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe
  • 14x - Sidney Crosby (will be 15x unless he misses the rest of the season)
  • 13x - Mark Messier, Marcel Dionne, Dale Hawercuk
Under this approach, for example, Lemieux doesn't get credit for 2001, but Jagr would still get credit for 2000 despite missing a quarter of the year. Even if we disregard seasons like 2008 and 2011, Crosby still ranks 3rd all-time. (And he did it in a lower-scoring era than everyone at the top of the list, except for Howe).
Lol you love to see posters trying to dunk on Crosby and he still comes out as one of the most consistent players of all time under their criteria

Agreed. I respect that the mods and admins have a difficult job to do, but it's weird how posters like him seem to be untouchable on here regardless of how much they act a fool. And like you said, it's usually those who are simply fed up with their antics that end up with the reprimand. Frustrating shit.

Sidney Crosby is one of the most consistent players of all time. An all time great. Top 10 without question, and I was saying that before lots of people, and certainly before the history forum guys were. When they had him 12th or whatever, I had him 6th.

So there is no need to make up garbage, like pretending a quarter or half season qualifies as a full season pace. It just doesn't and it's not reasonable to say it does. Or pretending he contributes much defensively. He doesn't, nor should he. Or inventing ways to blame his self-inflicted injury on a good honest player like David Steckel. Or emphasizing the Conn Smythe he got while playing at a 21 goal/65 point pace as a minus player.

Sid doesn't need the lies and the exaggerations to claim his rightful place among the all-time greats. You guys might think these bs arguments help his case. Maybe they do with some. I dunno. But to me they take the focus away from his actual accomplishments - which stand up quite strongly on their own without anyone trying to stretch the truth.

Some anti-Crosby posters always post willingly obtuse nonsense without any shame.

"Yea? Well I bet if Crosby had played all those games he missed in the middle of his physical prime when he was lapping in the league he woulda finished with <80 points so this actually means nothing"

Actually it means that Crosby, in 18 seasons, has never scored less points than games he played. That's what it means. Not hard to understand if you aren't twisting yourself in a pretzel trying to diminish the accomplishment.

Anyways, it's pretty insane how he has been basically a top 10 player in the league from 18 years old to 35, with most of that career being spent in the top 3. The definition of the ideal franchise player. Perhaps the most cumulative value ever provided to a franchise by a single draft pick.

Prime Ovechkin put up a 65 point season, so I guess it was possible.

Only the most biased of Crosby haters would try and diminish this stat. It’s a simple stat, it’s math, you can’t argue it. If someone tries to take his games played and plug in points for games he missed based on his ppg those years to show how many points he could have had…yeah, you’d rightly argue it makes no sense, he didn’t play those games, etc…..but 18 consecutive years of scoring at least 1ppg in all the games he’s played is that unarguable stat. For sake of discussion, he’s behind no one when it comes to scoring more than a ppg in terms of seasons, he’s first, Gretzky second

I have to say, it’s wildly ironic to see some people use that argument then proceed to say “if Ovi didn’t miss time sue to the lockouts + COVID…..”

It really illustrates the blind hatred/bias people have. They can’t even apply arguments consistently.

Like you said, it’s math lol. The guy would be a shoe-in for 2,000 points if not for missing 2 full seasons of his prime due to the concussion issues, yet still has a shot at 2,000. It’s insane.

What?

That can't be serious...

Turn abruptly with your head down while not looking where you are going.....said no hockey coach ever.

crosby runs into steckel.gif

Crosby fans have revised history so thoroughly in their heads that reminding them of what actually happened is apparently deeply unpleasant.

Amazing grasp at straws my dude. Yes Sid totally should have been prepared for that interference out of nowhere when he didn't even have the puck.

Sid turned abruptly and ran right into David Steckel - who was skating in a relatively straight line towards the play.

If anyone is guilty of interference there, it's Sid.

Thanks for your incredibly thoughtful, and relevant contribution to the thread. You can pat yourself on the back now. Anyway,

It's relevant because people in this thread are claiming the injury was merely bad luck. It wasn't. It was due to a mistake made by Crosby. He injured himself by being careless.

Jesus f***ing Christ...

I mean, this is a level of delusion I did not think anyone was capable of.

If you want to say that it was accidental contact, you would have an argument. Saying that if one of the two players deserved a penalty, it would be Crosby that's... well... ridiculous.
