Let's say Tampa doesn't resign Callahan and he hits Free Agency. Let's also say we likely buy out Richards. Maybe Callahan gets some decent offers, but not as great as he expected. Maybe he realizes leaving NY was a mistake?

Do you think there's any chance he might still sign with the Rangers in the offseason, assuming Sather offers him the same 6m/yr deal?

Where does he fit? 4RW? No thanks, don't want to pay 6x6 for a guy who will be behind MSL Nash and MZA.

if I am going 6 million or better, I am targeting Vanek not Callahan

Buyout Richards

JT Miller gets 2rd line duties (hear me out)

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Vanek - Miller - MSL
Hagelin - Brassard - Zuccs
Fast - Lindberg - Carcillo

I like Pouliot, solid player, but there are limitations to his game that I think are improved with Hagelin.

The chemistry shown between Brassard and Zuccs is undeniable. They must be kept together.

With Vanek and MSL flanking Miller, I think he would be able to not only play well, but fit in and contribute. He's a fearless player that tries to do things offensively and I think having guys that can play offensively can take advantage of that.

A few things:

1) We have no openings on the right wing
2) He'll command more on the open market than we'll be willing to give him
3) He might not even want to come back after the "break up"

I think we'd all like to have the guy back on the team, but it's impractical and unrealistic at this point.

Just when you thought it was over.

He just turned down a 6 x 6 offer, Buffalo at the very least will give him more and a full NMC. The chances are less than zero.

Can't see it. He'll likely be offered more over the summer then the NYR offered yesterday. Even then, can't see where he fits even if he wanted to come back and take less.

Unless we don't sign MZA. Nah, I don't think he'll be here.

While I agree with the conclusion, all the talk about RW jam and LW struggle seems a bit over the top. Zucc has many times stated that he could not care less if he plays RW or LW and his historical production is the same in the two positions.

Well, so even if you move Zuccarello to the left, you still have Nash and St. Louis on the right. Which brings us back to one of the problems we just went through with regards to Callahan--are you going to sign a guy to a big contract to play third line minutes?

???

In theory we could possibly squeeze it in...

FORWARDS
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Derek Stepan ($3.075m) / Martin St. Louis ($5.625m)
Chris Kreider ($2.600m) / J.T. Miller ($0.894m) / Ryan Callahan ($6.000m)
Carl Hagelin ($2.250m) / Derick Brassard ($3.700m) / Mats Zuccarello ($3.500m)
Tanner Glass ($1.500m) / Dominic Moore ($1.000m) / Daniel Carcillo ($1.000m)
Benoit Pouliot ($1.300m) / Oscar Lindberg ($0.675m)

DEFENSEMEN
Dan Girardi ($5.500m) / Ryan McDonagh ($4.700m)
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Dylan McIlrath ($0.703m)

Conor Allen or journeyman VET UFA ($0.925m)

SALARY CAP: $71,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $70,335,000; BONUSES: $1,876,667
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $765,000

But we would not...

well CLB and Buffalo make sense

but if he took 6x6 I would think the Rangers bring him back

Nash could slide to LW and Cally to RW but with that said they likely should focus on buying out Richards and getting a C with any extra cash

I think that bridge is significantly burned.

I also think it would be incredibly stupid to bring on yet another RW.

Ryan Callahan to the Flyers in 3...2...1

or Buffalo, New Jersey, Columbus

I think we see Cally in Florida as Viola is a HUGE rangers fan, season ticket holder and has money to burn because of his very successful company.

The Panthers made the move to pick up Luongo so I think we see them make a few moves and pick up some very nice additional pieces over the Summer including Callahan.

The chance of him returning to NY are slim as he has priced himself out of consideration

The more I think of it the more I realize nah they won't bring him back at that money. The wing is pretty strong now however they want to even it out

If Richards gets bought out and no ufa c comes they kinda have to go with say brassard , kreider, zuccarello as a 2nd line. Say msl, stepan, Nash as another. I could see hagelin, miller, with say pouliott resigned. Then resign Moore and carcillo cheap to go w Dorsett . Fast likely gets time too

It's reported Tampa Bay is going to throw money at him, he could take less because of the Tax situation. I would also fire his agent if I were him. He will save even money if he does that and negotiates with Tampa without an agent, similar to what Dustin Brown did.

if he bombs in Tampa and has to take less money, or his negotiating was bluffing and he's dying to come back, maybe.

buyout Richards, move Nash to the left.

Nash-Step-MSL
Kreider-Miller-Cally
Hags-Brass-Zucc

I would love that, obviously

Because of the pick situation the best thing for us would be him resigning with Tampa, since their 2nd round 2015 pick would be ours for our 7th round.

If he doesn't do well in Tampa and his value on the open market takes a hit absolutely bring him back. Move Zuc and one of MSL/Nash to LW.

Sign him and Niskanen and promote Miller and Fast.
