Could this be the year the Bruins finally miss the playoffs?

Not writing them off quite yet, a coaching change could give them a spark. Mostly the same roster made it last year and even beat the Leafs. But yeah they are in pretty rough shape going forward. The cupboard is extremely bare

Is it the team or is it Swayman?
Bruins are the last in the conference in goals per game. Let me repeat: THE DEAD LAST. Goaltending is borderline irrelevant to their struggles. Sure it doesn't help but everyone could have foreseen Swayman possibly struggling after the summer he had, no training camp, etc.

But It's not the same.

Over the last 2 years Boston has lost

Bergeron
Krejci
Ullmark
Debrusk

That's A LOT to lose over a 2 year period.

They survived last year because of Swayman struggled or got injured they had Ullmark as a safety ney.

They don't have that now and they don't have much in the pipeline either.

Boston is in trouble

There might not be a single person on the bruins playing well right now. What's crazy they're holding onto a WC spot right now. I have to imagine someone, maybe multiple players will snap out of it and things will improve. Would be very nice if some of the big contract players stepped up... I expect a coaching change here soon, then who knows.

Either way it might be the year, but it's still too early to tell.

Lots of people commenting here who obviously do not watch the Bruins and have zero idea what they're talking about. Bruins don't need a complete rebuild, they have a potential playoff team not playing like a playoff team. I think Monty has lost the room and the guys just don't wanna play for him. I think the inevitable is coming before long. Q is back and ready to coach and I think he'd be a great addition to turn this team around. A trade or two to add some scoring help wouldn't hurt either. Swayman missed training camp and I have complete faith that his game will get better especially if the guys in front of him can pick it up. This isn't a case of one or two guys not playing well, it's every player underperforming as a group so there is a systematic problem, one that plaguing every single player and it all leads back to the coach imo..... See ya Monty, it was fun but ya gotta go

I rather throw Bobby Valentine behind the bench then bring in Q. That guy is rotten or at the very least was rotten. He shouldn't be allowed to coach in the NHL again
I can’t have the bruins miss the playoffs yet

Finish in the wild card, face the leafs in the first round and finally let the leafs BURY this shitty team

Ruin them just like the did to Tampa, put the final nail in the coffin of their ‘dynasty’ that didn’t win shit

I sense some hard feelings.

Rotten how? 2nd winningest coach in NHL history and has three cups in the last decade. Rotten over the scandal well he did his time and everyone deserves a second chance I suppose... Nobody seems to have a problem that Bowman who was in a much greater position of authority in the scandal is now the GM of the Oilers 🤷

Putting prime Scotty Bowman behind the bench wouldn't spark this shitheap Sweeney built. Maybe an initial bump for a couple games but this roster is just bad.

It's clear Monty lost the room, but at the same time he has nothing to work with.

If i had to guess, with practice cancelled tomorrow they can him and just like Cassidy, he goes to another team and has success. My guess would be Montreal given he's an actually good coach and can speak french once they're done with St. Louis which you gotta figure is going to be soon.

The writing was on the wall from the season start. They have one - literally one - guy, who is an offensive threat. If he doesn't deliver, for whatever reason, no one does. And even if he does play well, the opposing team can just focus their game on him, like they did in the playoffs, and the Bruins offense is done. Who else is supposed to score for them? Zacha, Coyle, E. Lindholm? The corpse of Marchand?

The Bruins appear to be slowly adding quite a few poor contracts at this point between McAvoy / Swayman (we'll see if they rebound but Charlie has been bad for 18 months) and what were they doing signing Zadorov to that deal? LIndholm too. Just bizarre.

If any of the usual gang of idiots behind them gain some consistency, the Bruins will miss the playoffs handily. But that's an if. Sabres and Sens can't string anything together (not surprising given I have experience with both of their coaches from last year), and the Red Wings and Habs are just bad.

With that said however, they can just as easily go on an extending losing streak and see themselves out in a hurry. Their offense is beyond anemic. It turns out when you have only one legitimate scorer, it's pretty easy to get shut down. Elias Lindholm is not even close to a 1C but is being paid like one. I don't really know about their defense, but their goaltending is also bad. Swayman didn't get prepared for the season before his big deal and it shows, and their backup is FourPastSalo.

My money is on "they're gonna miss the playoffs" but the Atlantic is already such a spectacular shitshow beyond the other three perennial contenders, and that's being generous. Still, I don't think they have the horses.

Totally agree. Bruins have a lot of players who play slow. They are either physically slow (Elias Lindholm for example) or process slow (Zadorov for example). When the Bruins are up against teams that play fast, they get exposed as slow.

The fastest way for a possible rebound is canning Jim, even if it isn't his fault for their issues.

Who to replace him though, is a good question, especially in November.

Somewhere out there
They’re comically slow, unskilled, and lack discipline. Not to mention horrific special teams and awful goaltending. Monty inherited a great roster, one that hated the previous coach, a roster that was going to run through a wall for the new guy whoever it was. The slide back to reality for them has been steady and fast. They play so passive all over the ice I’m sure a new coach will help some, but he’s a lame duck so I’d assume they will keep him for the season and hang the rope around his neck and blame him for missing the playoffs.

Look, even if they make a wildcard they aren't going anywhere. As much as it sucks, I'd rather tank and have a higher draft pick than an almost certain first round exit then sit through another season of mediocrity next year. Let's just get this over with.

I'd rather see the Sabres make it, since they haven't made the playoffs in ions. A first round exit would be progress in the right direction for them and good for the franchise.
