Could this be the year the Bruins finally miss the playoffs?

Running on fumes? Two years ago they had the best regular season in the history of the league.

In that context, the speed at which it’s fallen apart has been breathtaking.

It's not surprising considering it was Bergeron's and Krejci's last year. It was a last hurrah. That + cap casualties and the downfall was coming. It's why I was so surprised by how solid we were last year.

The 13-14 president's trophy win followed up by the 14-15 where we missed the playoffs was more surprising.

And they lost to an 8th seed. They actually haven't got past the second round since 2019.

It's surprising that they'd been able to assemble a good regular season team for so long with an aging Bergeron as their best player

I can’t have the bruins miss the playoffs yet

Finish in the wild card, face the leafs in the first round and finally let the leafs BURY this shitty team

Ruin them just like the did to Tampa, put the final nail in the coffin of their ‘dynasty’ that didn’t win shit

So they were a weak team because they lost in Game 7 OT to the team who’s won the past two Eastern Conference titles?

Criticize them for failing to get it done in the playoffs, but I just don’t see “running on fumes” describing a team that went 220-88-44 over a five year period. That team was an absolute wagon that in 4 of those 5 years got knocked out of the playoffs by a razor thin margin.

- 2020 Tampa* won two OT games to keep it from going 7.

- 2022 Carolina won Game 7 by one goal

- 2023 Florida won Game 7 in OT

- 2024 Florida* won in the last minute to prevent game 7

* = Cup champion

Those aren’t ordinary first or second round outs, those are heartbreakers against very good teams.

If only we could have the same amount of success in the playoffs as the Toronto 1967s....said no one ever.

Tonight looks like rock bottom

If they come to their senses and fire this fool of a coach they could maybe have a new coach bump and maybe make a run at a WC, but that's slipping away and honestly the talent deficit up front is catching up with them

Yeah tonight is looking rough and even if coach isn't THE problem, firing him definitely is the easiest choice.

Montgomery has not been given a good roster. Elias Lindholm has been bad ever since he stopped being carried by JG. Marchand is in obvious decline. The forward group isn’t playoff calibre, it’s Pasta and not much else. Not his fault Swayman has been terrible either.

I’m sure they’ll fire him but the roster just isn’t that good.

Well so far tonight they are down 3-0 to Columbus, they could recover but they do not look like the same team.

Montgomery is a good coach who has a solid track record at multiple levels of coaching. He also is the coach who coached a team last year that had lost a ton of talent and ended up winning a playoff round.

The roster is easily the issue. The team is slow and has pitiful offensive output. Not Montgomery's fault the GM has inked multiple bad contracts, that McAvoy hasn't lived up to his salary, or that a goalie mess was created by the GM.

There are enough mid teams in the East that Boston still has a decent chance of making the playoffs. It would be unwise to get rid of an above average coach who has been given a gimped roster. I hope they do fire him and he goes to a more talented team. I like the guy.

BTW, has a team ever gotten rid of two coaches in a row that went on to win a Cup with a new team the following seasons?

Zadorov is a 3rd pairing dman being paid like a top 4.
Swayman looks bad this year.
E. Lindholm not producing.
McAvoy is not playing like a number 1 d-man.
And looks like age is catching up to Marchand.

Pastrnak is carrying this team right now.

This is what I'm talking about Bruins down 3-1 after 2 periods to Columbus.

Philadelphia looking like they have a chance to take over the #2 wildcard spot and they are down 2-0 to Colorado.

Boston is leaving the door WIDE open but NOBODY is walking through

Yep. He will be the fall guy for his own overachievement last year, pretty much.

Yes because bad teams are bad. What's your point?
