To me I think the issue is a culture change is happening and not in a good way. Swayman holding out is just the latest in a number of changes since Bergeron retired. They have handed out some really questionable contracts the last number of years, and added some poor contracts in free agency.

I think the culture is changing from all in on the team to a group of players playing together but looking out for themselves. Also doesn't help Marchand went from a 100 point player to .. we'll see what he is but so far he is a shadow of his former self.

Marchand hasn't breached 100 points since 2019. He's in his late 30s now and had 3 surgeries over the summer. He's still effective but we can't realistically expect him to be a prime source of offense anymore. He'd be a fine mid-6 guy, probably more 3rd line than 2nd though. Lean on him too much and he'll get injured again

No, Swayman will get it together. He missed all of the preseason. Give him a month or two before saying he’s overrated. And their defense core is very strong. They’ll have a good enough defense to squeak in, if only that.

Debrusk is centre of the bell curve, whether he plays 2nd or 3rd line depends on the talent depth of the team he's with. There's nothing wrong with being nothing special, but he's nothing special.

If you were running the Bruins, and the Jets offered you Kyle Connor straight up for McAvoy, do you do it? If the Islanders offered you Barzal straight up for Lindholm?

Toronto's had more than their fair share of "wtf" drafts. In '89, they had three first round picks and took three guys from the Belleville Bulls of the OHL. All because Ballard wouldn't pay for his scouts to travel more than 100 miles from the team. If they wanted to watch games beyond that, they had to pay for the travel and hotels out of their own pockets. In '77 they had the 11th and 12th overall picks and took an average John Anderson and a 5'9" defenseman over Mike Bossy and John Tonelli, again because Ballard cut corners on scouting. I get it that the draft doesn't come with guarantees, but I'm completely willing to admit when cheap ownership gets in the way of building a solid team.

Boston outright blew two of those picks on nobodies, and couldn't entice the third to stay with the team. All those 2015 picks are now in their prime, and if Boston had managed to hit on one or two of them, they'd be in a far different place today.

Debrusk literally played on the 1st line on the best team in NHL history. Hes a 25+G and 50+pt player. How many teams have that on the 3rd line?

I wonder if the loss of Bergeron and Krejci is finally catching up to Boston?

A lot of people thought this would happen last season after the team lost Bergeron and Krejci.

It didn't,

and I think part of the reason it didn't was because last season they had Ullmark and Swayman and that was the best goalie tandem in the league and that covered up A LOT of the Bruins issues if not all of them.

They don't have Ullmark anymore, they don't have that safety net and Korpi cannot cover up those issues like Ullmark could.

Throw in the loss of Debrusk and it might finally be to much.
